  • Purpose: see below
  • Cookie owner: Hotjar
  • Legal basis for processing: consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR)
  • Further information: Hotjar cookies are described below

Cookies set by the Hotjar script:

  • _hjClosedSurveyInvites
    • Hotjar cookie that is set once a visitor interacts with an External Link Survey invitation modal. It is used to ensure that the same invite does not reappear if it has already been shown.
    • 365 days
  • _hjDonePolls
    • Hotjar cookie that is set once a visitor completes a survey using the On-site Survey widget. It is used to ensure that the same survey does not reappear if it has already been filled in.
    • 365 days
  • _hjMinimizedPolls
    • Hotjar cookie that is set once a visitor minimizes an On-site Survey widget. It is used to ensure that the widget stays minimized when the visitor navigates through your site.
    • 365 days
  • _hjShownFeedbackMessage
    • Hotjar cookie that is set when a visitor minimizes or completes Incoming Feedback. This is done so that the Incoming Feedback will load as minimized immediately if the visitor navigates to another page where it is set to show.
    • 365 days
  • _hjid
    • Hotjar cookie that is set when the customer first lands on a page with the Hotjar script. It is used to persist the Hotjar User ID, unique to that site on the browser. This ensures that behavior in subsequent visits to the same site will be attributed to the same user ID.
    • 365 days
  • _hjRecordingLastActivity

    • Session
  • _hjTLDTest
    • When the Hotjar script executes we try to determine the most generic cookie path we should use, instead of the page hostname. This is done so that cookies can be shared across subdomains (where applicable). To determine this, we try to store the _hjTLDTest cookie for different URL substring alternatives until it fails. After this check, the cookie is removed.
    • Session
  • _hjUserAttributesHash
    • User Attributes sent through the Hotjar Identify API are cached for the duration of the session in order to know when an attribute has changed and needs to be updated.
    • Session
  • _hjCachedUserAttributes

    • Session
  • _hjLocalStorageTest
    • This cookie is used to check if the Hotjar Tracking Script can use local storage. If it can, a value of 1 is set in this cookie. The data stored in_hjLocalStorageTest has no expiration time, but it is deleted almost immediately after it is created.
    • Under 100ms

3.2.4 Targeting/advertising cookies

LinkedIn Insight Tag

The LinkedIn Insight Tag is a piece of lightweight JavaScript code that we have added to our website to enable in-depth campaign reporting and to help us unlock valuable insights about our website visitors. We use the LinkedIn Insight Tag to track conversions, retarget website visitors, and unlock additional insights about members interacting with our LinkedIn adverts.

The LinkedIn Insight Tag enables the collection of metadata such as IP address information, timestamp, device, browser characteristics (User Agent) and events such as page views. The IP addresses are truncated or (when used for reaching LinkedIn members across devices) hashed, and members’ direct identifiers are removed within seven days in order to make the data pseudonymous. This remaining pseudonymized data is then deleted within 180 days.

LinkedIn does not share the personal data with us, it only provides reports and alerts (which do not identify you) about the website audience and ad performance. LinkedIn also provides retargeting for website visitors, enabling us to show personalized ads off its website by using this data, but without identifying the member. LinkedIn also use data that does not identify you to improve ad relevance and reach members across devices.

LinkedIn members can control the use of their personal data for advertising purposes through their account settings. You can disable retargeting by LinkedIn using the following link: https://www.linkedin.com/psettings/guest-controls/retargeting-opt-out. See also the Privacy Policy for more information on data processing by LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy#choices. We recommend you read their Cookie Policy (https://www.linkedin.com/legal/cookie-policy) for more information. You can further deactivate JavaScript in your browser to avoid the JavaScript to be executed

Facebook Pixel

We use Facebook Pixel on our website. Facebook Pixel is a tracking code which allows us to track and monitor the success of advertisements we use on Facebook and to improve the effectiveness of those advertisements by recording information such as the device you used to access our website and the actions you took on our website using cookies. We may also use Facebook Pixel to create retargeting advertisements and custom audiences for our advertisements on Facebook and on our website.

Facebook aggregates data gathered from our use of Facebook Pixel on our website with data it gathers from other sources, in order to improve and target advertisements displayed on its website or via its services, to improve its systems and to provide measurement services to third parties which use Facebook’s advertising services. You can find out more about how Facebook handles information they collect about you and other individuals by accessing their privacy policy, which is available here: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy

We therefore invite you to consult Facebook's privacy policy in order to learn about the purposes (including advertising purposes) for which the browse information collected by Facebook is used.  We only receive statistical information from Facebook itself and not your personal data. If you do not wish to receive certain advertisements, you can adjust your advertising preferences on your personal Facebook profile. Finally, the settings of your mobile device allow you to indicate that the machine data cannot be communicated to third parties. See the Privacy Policy for more information on data processing by Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/ and https://www.facebook.com/business/gdpr

4.1 Cookie settings can vary from browser to browser.

The hyperlinks below provide further guidance on disabling/deleting cookies in different browsers.

5. Your Rights

You have certain rights regarding the data we hold about you.

These rights comprise the right to be informed, the right of access, the right to rectification, the right to object, the right to data portability, the right to erasure (the 'right to be forgotten'), the right to restriction of processing and the right to withdraw your consent (this last right is detailed further in section 4).

With regard to the existence of automated decision-making, including profiling and, where applicable, meaningful information about the logic involved, as well as the significance and the envisaged consequences of such processing for you, Elia confirms that there is no automated decision-making based on the personal data collected.

All these rights are also detailed in section 6 of our Privacy Policy [https://www.elia.be/en/privacy-policy]. We will try to respond to any requests as soon as feasibly possible and always within the timeframes set out in the GDPR.

If you have any questions about your rights or any complaints about the way Elia processes your personal data, please send them to us as per section 8 of this Policy before using our website. 6. Retention period of collected data

The retention period of the data collected by various cookies may vary depending on whether the cookie is installed by Elia or by third parties. We are not responsible for the retention period of third-party cookies.

Any personal data collected by Elia will not be retained for longer than is strictly necessary for the purposes set out in this Policy and in any case for no longer than twenty-five (25) months. Beyond that, said data will be deleted at the end of the retention period, unless a longer period is permitted or required pursuant to a legal or regulatory obligation, or if the data are subject to a process of anonymisation in order to make it impossible to 're-identify' individuals. As data that have undergone this process are no longer personal, they can be kept for an unspecified period of time and can be exploited, specifically to produce statistical reports.
