The company

Elia is the operator of the Belgian high-voltage transmission grid (380 kV to 30 kV) and is responsible for developing and maintaining the grid, providing users with access to it and controlling energy flows. The Elia group is a team of 2,000 professionals who have the task of ensuring the continuity of electricity supplies in Belgium.

As owner and operator of electricity transmission networks in Belgium and Germany Elia has an important role and mission in supporting and implementing Europe's energy and climate policy.

In the role of Group Buyer Services, you will be responsible for a group of product categories with a total annual expenditure value of several tens of million euros and negotiate framework contracts for the Elia group or one of our local entitites. You will act as an intermediary between the Group's internal customer and suppliers. You will be part of the Group Services & Maintenance team. You will contribute towards improving the company's results and increasing the efficiency of purchasing processes and optimising Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and synergies, bearing in mind the needs of internal customers.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for:


  • Co-creating the new Procurement group Services structure together with the team.
  • Maximising your impact and trust with internal customers to achieve value-added and efficient purchasing when determining purchasing needs;
  • Identifying and implementing synergies at group level;
  • Defining and putting into practice a structured and innovative purchasing strategy in line with the existing purchasing policy;
  • Establishing relationships of trust with internal customers by providing added value when determining purchasing requirements;
  • Conducting market studies, negotiating contracts (both international and local) and fostering positive, long-term relations with major suppliers using contract-management tools;
  • Implementing purchasing contracts via an ERP system;
  • Managing multifunctional teams with an approach involving open and structured cooperation.

Your Profile


  • You hold a master's degree and have three to five years' experience in sales and/or purchasing.
  • You speak fluent French, Dutch and English. Knowledge of German would be a plus. 
  • You have the appropriate empathy and maturity to forge relationships of trust with customers, suppliers and team members.
  • You relish working independently as part of your leadership role while also being a real team player.
  • You are assertive and structure your points well when communicating with others.
  • You have an analytical mind, allowing you to quickly achieve results.
  • You have good negotiating skills, should they be required.
  • Experience in project work would be an advantage.
  • You are able to show great versatility in your work.
