Elia is the operator of the Belgian high-voltage transmission grid (380 kV to 30 kV) and is responsible for developing and maintaining the grid, providing users with access to it and controlling energy flows. IFRS & Consolidation Manager

As a member of Elia's Accounting & Finance team, you will be responsible for consolidation and reporting in accordance with Belgian and IFRS standards for Elia Group and for managing the Tax team responsible for compliance with tax schedules and obligations (corporate tax, VAT, R&D tax relief, transfer pricing).
Operating in a top-class work environment, you will manage a team of three to four people and report to the Head of the Accounting & Finance Department.
Your main tasks and responsibilities in this role will involve:

  • Providing guidance and insights related to IFRS accounting rules and having full responsibility for monthly, quarterly and annual filings.
    • Coordinating (and executing) monthly consolidation activities in accordance with Belgian and IFRS standards.
    • Providing specific monthly in house reporting for some affiliates.
    • Producing quarterly reports and drafting the complete annual accounts (financial section) in line with IFRS.
    • Monitoring for triggering events which may indicate intangible impairment and responsibility for coordinating and documenting annual impairment testing work.
    • Coordinating year-end pension valuation activities performed by actuaries, including early reviews of assumptions with external audit team to ensure a smooth year-end process.
  • Preparing the budgeted figures for IFRS specific topics and report to the controlling team.
  • Defining internal control processes, to assure the compliance with accounting rules (IFRS) within the whole Group.
    • Liaising with subsidiaries to ensure that all information is compliant and provided on time, and analyzing this information.
  • Assessing and implementing the new accounting guidance including documenting changes in accounting policies and communication to the different stakeholders.
  • Being the single point of contact, providing direction to CFO, members of the finance team, controlling and M&A teams regarding the impact of complex accounting matters.
    • Research and evaluate accounting issues arising as a result of business requirements and work with external audit team to confirm conclusions, where needed.
  • Having a critical role to implement the digital transition in the team for such as consolidation systems, reporting and disclosure management tools.

Beside the IFRS, reporting & consolidation activities, you will be responsible to manage the tax team responsible for monthly, periodic and annual VAT reporting, corporate-tax and withholding-tax declarations. This team is also responsible for tax planning, ensures the compliance and provides advice on tax matters within the Elia Group.
You will also regularly work on multidisciplinary projects, in the course of which you will come into contact with various Elia departments and stakeholders (external auditors, CREG…).
You will coordinate reporting obligations in compliance with local requirements and as PIE (Public Interest Entity) for the Elia Group and for Elia Transmission Belgium and maintain regular contact with auditors and external bodies in relation to the above activities.

You find it easy to forge good working relationships both within the Group and outside it (existing points of contact within subsidiaries, service providers, other companies in the industry, etc.).

Additional requirements:

  • You have a university degree in economics/business and/or at least five years' experience in a finance/audit department.
  • You have excellent knowledge about IFRS, consolidation, BE-GAAP and taxation.
  • Ideally you already have some experience managing a team.
  • You are independent and proactive in your work and in setting your priorities. While you are happy to pitch in, you keep your eye on the big picture.
  • You are precise and methodical.
  • You are proficient in spoken/written English, French and Dutch.
  • Experience in SAP and/or BPC is a plus.
