As an Expert Electrical Calculations, you share responsibility for the accurate determination of electrical parameters and the selection of cable and line connections.
What you will do
- Perform detailed impedance calculations for underground cables and overhead lines.
- Carry out thermal calculations for cable routes to determine their transport capacity.
- Work closely with project management on infrastructure projects for Engineering.
- Develop expertise in underground cables and overhead lines: general technical aspects, calculations, standards, calculation software and tools.
- Keep up to date with the latest market trends and exchange experiences with internal and external contacts to acquire, maintain or expand the necessary know-how.
- Contribute to the creation of guidelines and standard documents.
- Act as a point of contact and provide advice to various departments within Elia, collaborating with 50Hertz within the group.
- Contribute to writing and delivering internal training sessions and presentations.
- Within the Calculations department, expand knowledge regarding EMF (electromagnetic fields) from underground cables.
- As your expertise grows, you will be asked to join internal, national and international technical working groups.
What you bring
- Master’s degree in Electrical/Electrotechnical Engineering (preferred), Electromechanics or Electronics-ICT. Master of Science in Physics or Mathematics with a strong interest in electrotechnics (theory & practice), electromagnetism and heat transfer.
- Experience or strong affinity with high-voltage and/or medium-voltage cables. Knowledge of HVDC and/or offshore cable systems is an asset.
- Good verbal and written command of two of the following languages: Dutch, French, English. Knowledge of a third language is an asset.
- Team player, strong communicator with analytical and synthesis skills to convey complex subjects clearly (both orally and in writing).
- Experience and/or knowledge of Cymcap, EMPT and Finite Element Method software (Comsol, Ansys, …) are a plus.
