Asset Manager HVDC

Reference ID:  8772

Function

As the Asset Manager HVDC, you will develop your expertise in the management of existing and new assets and of processes too.

The Asset Manager position mainly comprises the following duties:

  • Managing the asset fleets throughout their life cycle. This will involve collecting vital information about the various equipment and systems, technical phenomena and aspects of or possible anomalies in the HVDC system by both analysing feedback and liaising with external contacts, with a view to acquiring and preserving the necessary expertise. Establishing a long-term vision for the evolution and development of fleets and the resulting implications is also an important element.
  • Writing maintenance and replacement policies and analysing feedback with a view to improving them.
  • Managing budgets and resources allocated to the fleets, both in terms of forecast and monitoring, on various time scales.
  • Developing risk mitigation plans and a spare parts policy to minimise the risk of unavailability and ageing of equipment.
  • Defining and implementing use of the Health Index for assets with a view to establishing the individual condition of a fleet of assets.
  • Defining the business requirements of Asset Management tools.
  • Defining concepts and then translating them into technical requirements for specifications as part of your involvement in multidisciplinary teams during purchasing procedures for the framework agreements.
  • Helping to define infrastructure projects by communicating the needs of HVDC systems and seeking optimum technical and economic performance in cooperation with other technical departments, also taking the safety and sustainability aspects into account.
  • Conducting on-site visits to assess how technical concepts and policies are being applied, reporting your conclusions and suggesting an action plan.
  • Participating as a technical expert in national and international working groups within the company.
  • Drafting the annual maintenance plan for the maintenance areas and arbitration and integrating the 'risks' and 'resources' aspects if necessary.
  • Developing and delivering technical training courses for operational entities.
  • Gaining the relevant technical expertise in this field, as this will be vital for your ability to perform the activities above.

In this position, you will focus mainly on managing the various subsystems that together form a HVDC converter station. These include the IT systems (servers, HMI and telecom, etc.), the secondary systems (converter control and protection and emergency services, etc.) and the tertiary systems (converter water cooling, HVAC, fire detection and extinguishing, etc.).

You will be supported by the relevant asset fleet managers in respect of the primary systems (transformers, GIS and AIS, etc.). You will have AM responsibility for the ALEGrO converter station in Lixhe (B) and also be responsible - at the behest of Nemo Link - for Asset Management of the converter stations in Herdersbrug (B) and Richborough (UK). This will involve working closely with others in the HVDC team and reporting to Nemo Link.

As the Asset Manager HVDC, you will be in frequent contact with various departments at Elia (MAC, QCEM and NCC IT/Telecom, etc.). Besides managing the existing HVDC links, as the Asset Manager HVDC, you will also be involved in the integration of the new HVDC links (Princes Elisabeth Eiland, Triton) within Assets.

Your Profile

  • You have a degree in civil engineering or industrial engineering, specialising in electricity, electronics or electromechanics.
  • You are able to communicate fluently in French or Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.
  • You have a basic knowledge of HVDC systems or are willing to develop your expertise in this field.
  • You have a keen interest in technical and economic matters and are willing to develop your knowledge in the technical, financial and risk management fields.
  • You would like to gain insight into other areas of expertise by developing a system-level perspective.
  • Where necessary, you are not only able to provide in-depth detail but also have the ability to see the big picture and put these details in a much broader context concerning the technical and financial aspects of asset management.
  • You are pragmatic and results-focused and are also able to develop more abstract ideas and long-term outlooks.
  • You have the confidence to perform your tasks on-site in collaboration with operational entities.
  • You work well in a team and have good communication and persuasion skills.
  • You have excellent analytical skills and the ability to see the big picture, enabling you to express yourself clearly on complex matters (both orally and in writing).
  • You independently and proactively manage prearranged tasks.
  • You are able to compile reports or presentations on your activities in a clear and structured manner.
  • You are willing to travel abroad occasionally (mainly to the UK, several times per year, for a few days)
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office would be a plus.
