We are currently seeking an experienced Business Controller with a minimum of 8 years of experience to reinforce our team. The successful candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with exceptional financial acumen, analytical skills, and a deep understanding of the complex operations and regulations in the energy industry.
This Business Controller position will play a crucial role in the team and contribute to financial decision-making, improving our company’s financial status, increasing operational efficiency, and driving the company’s financial planning.
Position description:
As any business controller in the department, you will:
- Monitor and guide the implementation of strategic business plans within the context of the energy market. Support the budget owner in achieving their objectives by providing them the necessary finance knowledge, insights and advice in their activities
- Monitor, analyze, and interpret financial data and variances, operational information, market information, between different expenditures to identify trends, variations, and patterns that influences decision-making processes. Challenge budget owners to ensure adherence of actuals to budgets, business decisions and trends (macro and micro).
- Drive the budget cycle including multi-year business plans, yearly budgets, quarterly forecasts and monthly closings.
- Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction in the energy sector.
- Perform analysis providing insight for the management and helping in decision-making.
- Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile, particularly those unique to the energy industry.
The mission will comprise the following particular responsibilities:
- Control specific activities of the Transmission System Operator business related to all aspects of the maintenance of the high voltage grid, maintenance related investments, studies & expertise, …
- Oversee and manage the financial health of the maintenance activities by analyzing costs, and the company’s actual performance compared to the business plans in general and maintenance policies in particular.
- Building on your strong knowledge of the maintenance and asset management business, provide relevant advice and challenge. Ensure smooth collaboration and communication with the business management, via regular contacts and attending team meetings when necessary.
- Develop sufficient knowledge of the regulatory framework in order to control and advice the budget owners. Provide a regulatory reporting twice a year, consisting in deviation analysis and justification of yearly expenses against the regulatory budget plan
Identify opportunities to refine Business Controlling processes and reporting frameworks by analyzing current practices and inefficiencies
Your Profile
- Master Degree in economics or engineering or equivalent by experience.
- 8-10 years of experience as a Business Controller, preferably within the energy sector or in an industrial company.
- At least proficiency in one of the national languages (FR / NL), good knowledge of the other national language and English.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (SAP).
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods, mastering data analysis tools (Power Query, Power BI, …)
- Ability to strategize and solve problems in a dynamic, fast-paced industry. Ideally, ability to bridge financial and strategic advisory through modeling, analysis, storytelling and data-driven insights
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
