Function
Manage and supervise the Software Engineering sub-chapter, develop, ensure and/or oversee the implementation of (best) practises, tools and frameworks within the sub-chapter, in line with organisational and Development Chapter guidelines, in order to support the product teams with functional excellence and realise the sub-chapter objectives
Description of the work item
As a Sub-Chapter Lead at Elia Group, you will play a pivotal role in aligning and executing the objectives of your sub-chapter with the overarching vision and strategy of the chapter. You will work in close collaboration with the Chapter Lead and various stakeholders across the organization, including product or project teams and external partners, to effectively manage demand and capacity within your sub-chapter.
Your responsibilities will include hiring and developing sub-chapter members, defining their career paths, facilitating skill development, and conducting performance reviews. You will be a key player in ensuring that best practices, tools, and methodologies are consistently applied and shared, fostering an environment of knowledge sharing, learning, and continuous improvement.
Ensuring group cohesion and considering the diversity of chapter members will be essential, and this may involve travel between 50Hertz and ETB locations. You will manage the sub-chapter's operations, including reviewing outputs, service delivery, and maintaining the right capabilities within your team.
Additionally, you will coordinate the development, motivation, and coaching of chapter members in accordance with HR policies. Supporting the Chapter Lead, you will help identify and implement the appropriate tools and frameworks within the sub-chapter. Recruiting the right talent and allocating chapter members to product teams based on their skills and expertise will also fall under your purview. This includes hiring of internal candidates and the contracting of external vendors, ensuring a dynamic and skilled team composition. You as well will spend 50% of your time on content work in either products or projects.
As the Sub-Chapter Lead for Software Engineering, you will play a crucial role in elevating the software development lifecycle within Elia Group. Your responsibilities will include ensuring the continuous improvement of software engineering processes and methodologies. You will leverage guilds and gather, feedback from projects, products, and practices to enhance the efficiency and quality of software development.
You will empower chapter members to critically assess and coordinate the technical requirements and impacts of product requests. This will ensure that all development efforts are in line with the architectural standards and design patterns that uphold the integrity and strategic direction of Elia Group's IT landscape. A key aspect of your role will be to adeptly resolve priority conflicts and manage the allocation of resources within the sub-chapter. Your ability to balance project deliverables and deadlines will be essential in maintaining the momentum of software development initiatives.
Your Profile
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in software engineering with a demonstrated ability to manage and lead people, showing a successful history in team building and technical leadership.
- Strong technical foundation with a broad knowledge of software development practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
- Experience in development practices across various programming languages and frameworks, as well as experience with modern development tools, software patterns and environments (such as CI/CD pipelines, Git, auto deploy and automated testing frameworks or Generative AI for development or others in the area of software development).
- Technical curiosity paired with a pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset, driving the development of sustainable and innovative solutions within the organization.
- At least 3 years of experience in applying agile methodologies within software development teams, with a thorough understanding of how to adapt and implement agile principles to enhance team performance and results.
- Clear and effective communication skills, capable of engaging with technical experts and stakeholders at both technical and conceptual levels.
- Strong presentation skills, able to articulate complex ideas in an accessible manner.
- While not essential, knowledge and experience in the energy and/or utility sector will be considered beneficial.
- Proficiency in English is required, with additional language skills in Dutch, German, or French being advantageous.
