Function
At Elia, we are committed to enabling a sustainable, reliable and affordable energy system for everyone. The energy transition is happening now - fast and at the heart of this transformation stands Elia.
Within our Market, Energy & System Services (MES) department, we design, develop and contract the services that keep the electricity system stable, reliable and future‑proof. Every second. Every day.
To reinforce our MES Expert Chapter, we’re looking for an Ancillary Services Contract Manager: someone who enjoys translating technically complex needs into clear, robust and future‑oriented contractual frameworks. If you’re energised by the idea of working at the crossroads of market design, innovation and regulation — and you want to make a real impact— then we’d be excited to meet you.
Your role and impact
As Ancillary Services Contract Manager, you will directly contribute to the evolution and maturity of Belgium’s balancing and flexibility markets. Ancillary services are essential to keeping the grid stable — and you will help define how these services are contracted from producers, consumers, storage operators and aggregators.
You will join a multidisciplinary environment where product owners, market designers, system operators, digital experts and regulatory specialists work together to shape the electricity system of tomorrow. Your expertise will help ensure that the services Elia procures remain aligned with changing system needs, technological developments and European regulations.
What you will do:
- You will draft, update and optimise contracts governing ancillary and flexibility services, ensuring clarity, consistency and strong alignment with Belgian and European regulatory frameworks.
- You’ll work closely with Product Leads and Product Managers, technical teams and digital colleagues to translate operational needs into effective contractual terms that fully support product design, market processes and digital implementation.
- You will help prepare documentation for public consultations, support approval processes with the regulator(s) and ensure compliance with EU network codes and national legislation.
- A key part of your role will be maintaining constructive relationships with market stakeholders — Balancing Responsible Parties (BRPs), Balancing Service Providers (BSPs), producers, consumers and aggregators — while collaborating closely with colleagues in Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Customers and System Operations.
- Finally, you will contribute to the development of new flexibility products and sourcing strategies, bringing fresh insights and best practices from other TSOs or from other regulated sectors.
Your Profile
- A master’s degree in law or a Technical/Engineering field.
- At least 3 years of experience in the energy sector, a regulated environment or contract management.
- Knowledge of electricity markets, ancillary services or balancing mechanisms is a strong asset.
- The ability to translate complex concepts into accessible and actionable contract language.
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Fluency in English and at least one national language (French or Dutch).
