Within Grid Data Analytics, you will develop innovative solutions that support the reliability, quality and performance of Belgium's high-voltage grid.
Together with experts from various disciplines, you will translate complex business challenges into smart data solutions that make a difference every day.
Your impact
As Data Scientist, you will design and develop advanced data and AI solutions for various domains within Grid Solutions.
You will combine data science, AI, software development and business insight to produce solutions that are scalable and generate real added value.
You will work closely with business stakeholders, data experts and specialists from Division-D.
Examples of projects include:
- automatic asset recognition via computer vision;
- prediction and analysis of grid load based on historical data;
- AI-driven analysis tools for technical simulations;
- smart applications for data mapping between different systems within the company.
Your responsibilities
- You will translate business requirements into tangible solutions that deliver data‑driven insights with clear added value.
- You will present data and insights in a clear, understandable and powerful way.
- You will conduct advanced data analyses (such as trend detection and benchmarking).
- You will propose ways to improve (on a cross-cutting basis) data quality across various products and data consumers.
- You will actively contribute to the realisation of specific data-related backlog items within the context of project or product teams.
- You will optimise data management processes, thereby boosting efficiency and quality.
- You will work closely with a broad group of stakeholders from various domains.
- You will actively monitor market trends and technological developments and analyse how these can help enhance solutions (e.g. automation of information processing, data science and AI), both within the Grid Data Analytics team and beyond.
- You will utilise the latest data and AI technologies and tools within Elia (as provided by the chapters) to deliver better solutions for the business, applying the early-adopter principle.

Your Profile
- You have a degree in computer science, business administration, engineering or a similar field (or equivalent experience), possibly complemented by a degree in AI or data science.
- You have a good understanding of Elia's activities and the energy market (with a focus on asset management, engineering, system operations and system planning) or are willing to quickly learn more about them.
- You have some initial experience:
- as a data scientist and/or AI expert, with excellent knowledge of the Python ecosystem;
- with DevOps principles, preferably within an Azure environment;
- in training, deploying and operationalising AI models (computer vision, natural language and/or time series), ideally on an industrial scale (MLOps);
- in establishing data quality frameworks and applications;
- with data architectures such as data lakehouses (e.g. Databricks).
- You have a good understanding of the basic principles of data governance (e.g. data quality, traceability, data ownership, data domains, data dictionary, data transformation best practices).
- You have proven experience in:
- operational data management processes;
- data mesh, data products and data contracts;
- data quality KPIs and associated tools.
- You are familiar with Agile methodologies, are tech-savvy and are curious about new technologies.
- You possess strong communication and presentation skills.
- You are solution-oriented, think outside the box and are willing to adopt a hands-on approach.
- You work efficiently in multi-functional teams.
- You have a strong command of French, Dutch and English (being at C1 level in at least one language and at at least B2 level in the others).
