Data Transmission Network Operator
Function
The Datacom team provides Elia with a reliable and fault-tolerant communication network. The department’s responsibilities include management of fixed and satellite telephony, internet and Wi-Fi connectivity, network security, and the management of different telecommunications platforms supporting remote operation and monitoring of the high-voltage substations, data collection, physical security, and communication with other partner companies.
To strengthen our Data Transport Network operations Center (NOC) Team, we are looking to hire a Data Transmission Network Operator, whose goal will be to ensure the good functioning of the datacom network and ensure incidents are handled in a fast and swift way as well as handle the planning (scheduled or not) of the maintenance/repair of the Elia Data Transmission network.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitoring and ensuring the good functioning of all Datacom platforms.
- Analyzing, solving, and escalating problems arising in the Datacom network, if needed in collaboration with network architects, product owners, and/or external partners.
- Contacting the stakeholders in case of network incidents, technical problems, or planned works, to obtain additional information, to confirm a planning or to confirm a resolution of an incident or a problem.
- Responding in all rolls (Daily Operations, Planning, Projects) to all questions or requests coming from other teams/departments or from third parties.
- Executing administrative task to maintain the quality of the Datacom platforms including the documentation.
- Actively contributing in internal/external process improvements, and in knowledge sharing within the team.
- Working hours: Monday to Thursday: 7h30 – 15h45, Friday: 7h30 – 15h
Your Profile
- You hold a bachelor’s degree in electronics, ICT, or telecommunications, or have equivalent technical experience in this field,
- Must have an all-round practical and operational knowledge of modern LAN and WAN networks, such as SDH, DWDM, IP/MPLS, VOIP, and their management systems,
- Experience as a Helpdesk officer or Network Operations Engineer is an advantage,
- Motivated to continuously learn and broaden your technical knowledge of Datacom networks,
- Able to work independently and methodically, to set priorities and have a sense of responsibility and urgency.
- You have the necessary analytical and communication skills to assess impact and risks accurately, and to communicate about it when necessary.
- You can be flexible and approachable (tasks may be suddenly interrupted by urgent operational issues) and you are stress resistant.
- You can handle flexible work times and are open to be part of a guard duty (after an initial training period of minimum 1 year).
- You are fluent in Dutch or French, with a good knowledge of the other language. You have a good working knowledge of English. (this is an absolute must!)
