Function

Engineering Secondary Systems Telecom is responsible for preparing the diagrams needed to implement the various telecommunications solutions in and between the substations.
As the Designer Coordinator, you are responsible for managing and coordinating designers, planning studies and monitoring the quality of studies.

 

The Designer Coordinator’s most important duties and responsibilities are to:

 

  • play a coordinating role in the planning for his/her team (7-9 designers)
    • evaluate the workload of each individual separately, fairly and in a balanced manner
    • prepare analyses and summaries that could lead to changes in the overall planning, in terms of both resources and deadlines
    • communicate the state of play to the parties concerned at regular intervals
  • provide his/her team with technical and organisational guidance
    • organise knowledge transfer in his/her team
    • closely monitor the training courses his/her staff do (both technical and soft-skills related)
  • monitor the quality of the output that his/her designers generate
    • organise and monitor the quality control process
    • organise and monitor retour d’expérience in his/her team and for the specialist departments
  • take responsibility, as the immediate manager of his/her team members, for:
    • applying the Performance Management System (determining objectives, job dates and evaluations, etc.)
    • planning current and future studies by the members of his/her team and ensuring compliance with this planning
    • the quality of the studies that his/her team have done
  • put together the files of external partners for a project and carry out checks and evaluations. Discussing the above with external partners and having the abili  
  • ty to objectively defend and substantiate their evaluation.
  • explain the studies internally (Elia Engineering), substantiate and defend them with the outsourcing partners or the internal department responsible for commissioning tests (MAC/Telecontrol/Datacom) in more complex situations
  • assist the project leader in technical meetings with external customers


You will work closely with the project leaders, who are responsible for determining the scope of projects, and also with the internal Datacom and Telecontrol departments, which are responsible for commissioning systems and then managing them.

Your Profile

Your profile as Designer Coordinator Telecom: 

 

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree or a higher secondary education diploma in electricity or electromechanics, or equivalent experience
  • You are fluent in Dutch or French. A good (spoken and written) knowledge of the other language will be essential
  • You will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a relevant sector
  • You have a strong sense of responsibility and excellent organisational skills
  • You have good communication skills, are assertive and customer-focused and have team spirit
  • You are comfortable working with AutoCad, Visio and Office software (Word, Excel and Outlook etc.)
