Function

 

Within Elia Group, Elia Engineering is responsible for the engineering of all infrastructure projects relating to the development, extension and renovation of the Belgian 30 to 380 kV electricity transmission grid.


As a Linear Assets & Structures (LA&S) Standards Designer, you will be a member of the Design Standards & Tools team, whose responsibilities include drawing up LA&S standard plans. These plans are made available to project teams so that they can work as efficiently and qualitatively as possible. Standard LA&S plans are applicable to both Overhead Line (OHL) projects and Underground Cable (UGC) projects.


Today, standard plans are drawn up in 2D and 3D. The aim is to develop towards 3D intelligent design (SmartDesign) in the near future in order to move towards Building Information Modelling (BIM). This BIM environment is being set up for multidisciplinary projects, of which Lines and Cables are a part. As a LA&S Standards Designer, you will contribute to these developments.

 

Your role will involve the following tasks:

 

  • Consulting and working together with the relevant experts to shape and improve the plans.
  • Management, creation, updating and availability of LA&S standards, i.e. all parts required for Line and Cable projects (e.g. insulator string parts).
  • Participation in the drafting of the LA&S design methodology.
  • Support for the Quality & Technical Integration (Q&TI) team in updating technical notes (Basic Specification (BS), Building Block (BB), etc.)
  • Presentation of feedback to the designers.
  • Management of technical documentation relating to LA&S cables, insulator strings, equipment, structures, etc.
  • Management of the simplified pylon library, in collaboration with structural experts.
  • Creation and/or updating of Excel templates to create insulator strings, for example.
  • Management of standard trench plans and their updates.
  • Visio symbol library management for scenarios.

Your Profile

 

  • You hold a degree in electrical or electromechanical engineering or architectural drawing, or have equivalent experience.
  • You have perfect command of French or Dutch, and can understand the other language.
  • You have knowledge of MicroStation or other design tools.
  • You have experience in 3D design of structures.
  • You can create layouts based on 3D models.
  • Your aim is to learn and become an expert in your field.
  • You are proactive and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are capable of fulfilling the role of designer, not just that of a draughtsman.
  • You are a good planner and organiser, with an eye for detail, a strong sense of responsibility and the ability to assert yourself.
  • You value quality, you are punctual and an effective communicator.
  • Experience of working with point clouds from 3D scans or transforming point clouds into 3D models, experience of photogrammetry and BIM experience would all be considered assets.
