Function
Elia’s Grid Development department is at the forefront of designing the electricity infrastructure of the future, supporting the transition to climate neutrality. The energy revolution brings new technologies for consumption and generation, as well as an increasing number of small-scale players. Although European climate objectives are translated to the national level, having reliable and granular local information—even for non-directly connected actors—is crucial. The Scenarios, Processes & Data team collects and manages this essential local data.
About the Role:
As an Energy Forecast Expert at Elia, you will pioneer innovative, data-driven methods to forecast and allocate electricity flows—both injections and offtakes—across our transmission and distribution networks. You’ll work closely with DSOs and partners to ensure high-quality data and unlock the potential of industrial consumers, residential demand trends, electrification, and system flexibility.
Your expertise will be key in building forward-looking scenarios that drive the evolution of our electricity grid, directly impacting the reliability and sustainability of the Belgian energy system. Your insights and analyses will help Elia and its stakeholders stay ahead in a rapidly changing energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, document, and implement advanced methodologies for the allocation of injections and offtakes across grid levels and different asset technologies.
- Coordinate and facilitate regular discussions with different stakeholders, especially DSOs—aligning concepts, sharing expertise, and ensuring rigorous quality for local load and generation data.
- Design, maintain, and improve digital tools and models to process, allocate, and analyse injection and offtake data, ensuring that these tools enable data-driven insights and automation.
- Drive continuous improvements in data quality—conducting regular checks, organising consultations with DSOs, collaborating with data stewards, and implementing corrective actions.
- Communicate findings, insights, and recommendations clearly to internal and external stakeholders, including management and partner organisations.
- Assess and validate the coherence of injected and offtaken volumes—identify anomalies, investigate root causes, and propose solid solutions.
Your Profile
- A master’s degree in engineering or in a relevant technical field, providing you with an in‑depth understanding of electrical engineering (energy, active/reactive power, power factor, short‑circuit power, etc.).
- Experience with energy data analysis and interpreting injection and offtake forecasts is an asset, although candidates with a strong interest in developing these skills are certainly encouraged to apply.
- Hands‑on experience in creating data analysis tools (such as Python, R, PowerBI, Databricks, etc.).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate and reach consensus with DSOs and other stakeholders.
- An analytical mindset and the ability to critically assess and validate data and assumptions.
- Fluency in English and in Dutch and/or French.
