About Elia
Elia develops electricity markets, facilitates access to them and establishes ancillary services to ensure a secure, efficient and reliable electricity system. As Belgium’s transmission system operator, Elia is at the forefront of the energy transition: integrating large volumes of renewable energy, enabling industrial electrification, connecting new technologies and designing flexibility solutions that deliver the best outcomes for society.
Within Elia, the System & Client Solutions (SCS) department is responsible for products that make this vision a reality. We design and implement the solutions needed to support the Belgian grid — from enabling both TSO and DSO grid user connections within a context of growing congestion, to developing the ancillary services that ensure system security as the energy landscape transforms. We serve customers, partners, and market parties across Belgium
About the Role
As Energy Market Expert, you’re responsible for designing robust, compliant, and implementable business solutions. You contribute to develop Elia's vision in terms of market design, product and contract development and participate to the implementation of this vision.
As Energy Market Expert, you contribute to shaping the future of electricity markets by:
- Monitoring and analyzing market and regulation mechanisms in Belgium and neighboring countries;
- Running quantitative and qualitative studies to support product discovery and help to identify, understand and assess the problem that needs to be solved as proposed solutions;
- Designing how market mechanisms and services need to evolve, in line with the defined business priorities and considering all relevant aspects (e.g. customer needs, regulatory frameworks, budgets and tariffs, technical and operational impact);
- Interpreting relevant regulation (not only current regulation but evolutions of European, Belgian federal and regional frameworks as well) and analyzing the coherency of our proposed design with it;
- Actively contributing to the drafting of legislative texts;
- Translating complex market & regulation concepts into clear, accessible design documentation, contracts and operational rules;
- Engaging with stakeholders (regulators, authorities, system operators, associations, market participants) to align on market design;
- Voicing Elia’s opinion in national and international fora (e.g. Synergrid, ENTSO-E), and coordinating internal actions related to these engagements;
- Supporting the implementation of these mechanisms within Elia’s applications, processes and roadmap decisions;
- Acting across the different product lines within the department to create synergies and coherence in respective business design.
Based on your strengths and experience, you will be asked to take on a number of these tasks, providing you with a diverse, yet coherent, set of responsibilities.
