Energy System Modeler
Requisition ID:  11128
Posting Start Date:  09/07/2026

Function

Elia is strengthening its Scenarios, Market and Adequacy Analysis (SMA) department to tackle the challenges arising from the transformation of the energy system.

The SMA team develops and analyzes European energy mix scenarios and conducts a wide range of public and internal studies on the future of the Belgian and European energy system, security of supply, flexibility, the Belgian transmission grid, and interconnection projects.

These studies include security of supply assessments at different time horizons, such as the Belgian Capacity Remuneration Mechanism volume proposals, the 10-year Adequacy and Flexibility Study, forward-looking energy transition studies such as the recent Blueprint, as well as European studies carried out within ENTSO-E.

The department also performs economic assessments of high-voltage grid reinforcement projects, supporting bilateral projects with other transmission system operators, Elia's Federal Development Plan, and the European Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP).

In addition, SMA maintains European energy mix scenarios covering most of Europe, monitors developments in emerging technologies, and develops future energy pathways that are used throughout Elia and by external stakeholders.
