Function

The Towers Projects Calculations Expert is responsible, within electrical infrastructure projects (380, 220, 150, 110, 70 and 36 kV), for engineering the relevant high-voltage power lines and the towers and structures used for them.

 
This mainly involves the following tasks: 

• Taking responsibility for the study and design of new towers and modifications to existing structures
• Performing specialist calculations and drawing up and monitoring the study schedule, taking into account customer requirements and requests
• Supporting designers in developing calculation models, working with both internal staff and external design agencies
• Preparing tender documents and participating in the procurement process
• Overseeing the acceptance of manufactured towers and structures at the manufacturer's premises or in a testing environment
• Providing technical support for both on-site construction and work preparation in collaboration with the relevant Elia Group staff as well as project managers, suppliers, contractors, customers, etc.
• Monitoring quality management, performing checks and reporting
• Taking the necessary steps to optimise and implement the calculation rules in the software tools used
  
  

The expert will operate within the Grid Solutions department and will be involved in large-scale projects relating to new high-voltage towers and modifications to existing structures.

Your Profile

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, architecture or physics
• A keen interest in detailed technical studies
• Knowledge of and experience in the design of steel structures
• Experience in the use of engineering, 3D design and finite element software
• Familiarity with relevant standards, e.g. Eurocodes
• Strong sense of responsibility and good organisational skills
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Experience in engineering and/or technical expertise would be an advantage
• Knowledge of Microsoft Project, VB.NET, VBA scripting and Fortran would be an advantage
• Language skills:
  • For internal communication: an excellent knowledge of Dutch or French and a basic grasp of the other language
  • For external communication: excellent spoken and written English
