Function


As a Secondary Systems Expert, you build expertise and are technically responsible for your specific domain within the Secondary Systems Expertise team.
 

In general, the tasks of an expert mainly include:
 

  • drafting technical standards/specifications and solutions based on concept notes and guidelines for application in Elia investment projects.
  • the technical management of existing framework agreements.
  • for new framework agreements, you will help monitor the entire European tendering procedures and you will be fully responsible for the technical part (market research - drawing up technical specifications - analysis of offers - meetings with suppliers - ...).
  • supporting and providing technical advice to the project teams.
  • developing and providing technical training to the operational entities.
  • developing a general knowledge of the entire secondary part of an Elia substation.
     

Within the Secondary Systems Expertise team, you will join the "Protection & Automation" sub-team. Here you will mainly be responsible for the following tasks:
 

  • In addition to general knowledge of the entire secondary section of an Elia substation, you will be specifically co-responsible for the protections, automation and control section.
  • IEC61850 knowledge and application within Elia.
  • Checking standard low-voltage plans and documents prepared by third parties.
  • Technical support for the projects (checking block diagrams, developing guidelines, ...).
  • Developing and updating protection standards (application notes, schemas, etc.).
     

Acquiring the necessary technical expertise in the subject matter is a prerequisite for performing the above activities.

 

Over time, the range of tasks may be adapted - depending on the needs within the team and your own interests.

Your Profile

 

  • You are a civil or industrial engineer in electricity or electromechanics.
  • You can express yourself both verbally and in writing in Dutch, French and English.
  • You look for pragmatic solutions and are customer and result-oriented.
  • You can work smoothly in a team, are communicative and have a good power of persuasion.
  • You have a strong affinity for electrical engineering and are willing to build up and share technical expertise.
  • You have strong analytical and synthesizing skills, which enables you to communicate a complex subject matter clearly (both orally and in writing).
  • You independently and proactively manage the pre-agreed set of tasks.
  • In-depth knowledge of MS Office would be an advantage.
  • You have several years’ work experience.
  • You are required to have an “expert’s profile”:
    • You are willing to gain in-depth knowledge in a specific domain (in this case “Protection & Automation”).
    • You are willing to acquire new knowledge about new technologies and applications to be implemented within Elia.
    • You proactively seek to expand your knowledge.
  • The following technical knowledge is a plus:
    • Experience in drafting technical specifications.
    • Knowledge of the low-voltage protection philosophy (of Elia).
    • Knowledge of IEC61850

  • Salary: a competitive salary package, allowance for representation expenses, year-end bonus, double vacation pay, meal vouchers (€8 per working day), eco-vouchers, Sinterklaas and year-end vouchers as well as bonuses based on individual and group results.

  • Interest subsidies: after you have been with Elia for 5 years, Elia Engineering will be able to offer you a subsidy to reduce the interest charges on your mortgage loan. This will only be possible if the mortgage loan was taken out when you were already an Elia employee.  
  • Elia shares: Elia will give you the opportunity to subscribe to shares with a discount of 16.66% on the average share price.
