Function

 

Within the Corporate Finance department, Group Controlling is an essential partner of the company and its components in achieving its strategic objectives. Our main task is to allocate the company's resources in an optimal way and to check that they are used in such a way as to achieve the company's objectives while respecting the accounting and regulatory framework.

 

As a Financial Controller for the group, you will mainly focus on the controlling of the Elia Group Functions activities, meaning the supporting activities at Group level, that are performed in collaboration with 50Hertz (our German TSO subsidiary) and some Affiliates. You are also in charge of the regulatory compliance on the non-regulated activities towards the regulator.

 

You ensure robust financial management, with a particular focus on delivering high-quality analysis and reporting. This role transforms raw financial data into actionable insights, enabling management to make informed strategic and operational decisions.

You will report directly to the Head of Group Controlling - Operations.

 

The role will mainly:

 

  • act as a controller / business partner supporting the Elia Group Functions:
    • Monitor and control the financial and non-financial performance of each Group Function.
    • Coordinate the (pluri-)annual budgets, align them with group objectives, and prepare quarterly forecasts.
    • Conduct variance analyses between actuals, budgets, and forecasts; identify improvement or optimization opportunities.
    • Collect, validate, and consolidate departmental financial data into meaningful reports.
    • Implement and enforce financial policies, procedures, and compliance standards across departments.
    • Facilitate the operational side of the Group Functions in Sciforma and SAP (setting up project structures, enable time registration, approve purchase orders, …).
    • Prepare the Elia invoices to our Affiliate companies.
    • Monitor the intra-group contracts.
    • Streamline reporting and financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
    • Provide financial insights and recommendations to department heads and group management.
    • Act as liaison between the Group Functions and Group / Local Finance, esp. Local Controlling.

 

  • Support and drive change to transform Group Controlling in its mission:
    • initiating, managing or taking part in projects to transform the role of Group Controlling into that of strategic advisor for the group's entities.
    • Taking part in cross-functional projects within the Elia Group in his/her role as a financial and reporting expert.

Your Profile

 

  • Master's degree, preferably a in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Management or similar.
  • 7+ years' relevant experience in controlling, with proven experience in analytics and reporting.
  • In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of accounting principles and financial information standards (BE GAAP and IFRS).
  • Experience working for one of the Big Four, and/or in corporate banking and/or strategic consulting is a bonus.
  • Strong ability to interpret figures and identify trends.
  • Knowledge of modern ERP systems (SAP) and business intelligence tools (SAP Analytics / Power BI).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel / Powerpoint).
  • Good communication skills in an international (European) environment.
  • Practical knowledge of at least three of the following languages: English, Dutch, French, German.
