The Elia Group European & International Affairs Department is in charge of monitoring relevant EU policy developments, proactively shaping relevant EU legislation, and ensuring the EU and international public affairs of Elia Group by promoting it as a trusted advisor to authorities and stakeholders. We act based on Elia Group expertise and in the interest of society.
Elia Group supports equally the Belgian Transmission System Operator Elia Transmission Belgium, the German Transmission System Operator 50Hertz and the other daughter companies of Elia Group that are active internationally. The EU & International Affairs team is partly based in Brussels and partly in Berlin. 

 

For this position we are looking for a Brussels-based (with occasional travel) reinforcement with an international public affairs focus. Due to the impact of the US activities on the international affairs of Elia Group, US public affairs activities will be a specific focus area for this position. 

 

The international affairs advisor will develop and implement strategic public affairs initiatives to enhance Elia Group's presence and influence in and understanding of the region. This role requires a good understanding of international energy policies, strong networking skills, and the ability to influence key stakeholders across different sectors.

 

The role will focus mostly but not exclusively on international public affairs. It is composed of the following activities:

 

  • Support the business and co-develop and execute a public affairs strategy to support Elia Group’s objectives internationally and in particular in the US.
  • Monitor and analyze energy policy developments and political trends in the US, providing insights and recommendations to the leadership team. 
  • Build and maintain an external network with key stakeholders including government officials, relevant institutions and associations, to support and promote Elia Group’s views.
  • Represent Elia Group in public forums and stakeholder meetings, effectively advocating for the company’s positions and challenges.
  • Prepare regular reports and briefings for senior management on public affairs activities, policy developments, and stakeholder engagement internationally and in particular in the US.
  • Provide support to other public affairs initiatives and projects as needed, contributing to Elia Group’s overall public affairs goals.
  • Organise & facilitate events and visits of relevant international stakeholders.
  • Support the (Group) CEO and senior management level for public and closed-circle exchanges on the international domain.
  • Provide support and create opportunities related to participation in international meetings (COP, World Economic Forum).
  • Collaborate and liaise internally with colleagues from different jurisdictions and expertise.
  • Work autonomously and in a small team, under the guidance and support of the international affairs lead.

Your Profile

 

  • University degree, by preference related to energy policy, law, economics, or a related field;
  • Good knowledge of the international and European political, economic and legal context. Similar knowledge of the US energy sector and processes is a plus;
  • A clear taste and talent for analysis, synthesis, and strategic thinking;
  • Excellent communication, presentation and editorial skills;
  • Hands-on, strong interpersonal, organisational and relationship-building skills;
  • Excellent command of English. Fluent in French, Dutch or German.
  • Experience in an infrastructure or energy company or any role in energy-policy is a plus, as well as previous working experience in an international setting.
