Function

 

The Legal Department assists Elia's various departments with the legal aspects of its activities. 
Although every Legal Counsel has their own specialisations, they also participate in cross-functional projects and serve as backup for the other members of the team.
We are seeking to expand the team with a lawyer specialising in the following areas and who is open to learning about others:

 

  • Energy law and town planning law (permits) 

 

This role encompasses the following tasks and responsibilities:

 

  • In dialogue with the internal customer, clearly identify needs and translate them into tangible to dos that, where appropriate, are dealt with in collaboration with external partners
  • Advise on a range of legal matters and specific problems to ensure the smooth running of the company
  • Assess and mitigate the risks posed by each project by analysing the context and the contractual and other documents involved
  • Monitor the latest legislative and regulatory developments in the relevant legal fields

 

Depending on your specialisation:

 

  • Advise on administrative and town planning law issues during the preparation and implementation of major infrastructure projects, and deal with specific issues concerning the environment, town planning and rights in rem, more specifically during negotiations with property owners and the authorities 
  • Participate in the drafting of contracts and other documents in the energy sector (e.g. regulated contracts) together with the relevant in-house teams, provide legal analyses and support teams in their interactions with market players and regulators

Your Profile

 

  • You hold a Master's degree in law.
  • You are fluent in either Dutch or French with a sound grasp of the other language and have an excellent command of English.
  • You have between two and seven years' professional experience at the Bar and/or in a company. 
  • You are efficient, customer-oriented and keen to learn. 
  • You adopt an organised, independent approach to your work.
  • You are enterprising and willingly take on responsibility.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills and are a team player. You can be assertive when required.
