Function
The Elia Group is active in electricity transmission. We ensure that production and consumption are in balance at all times. We supply electricity to 30 million consumers. With subsidiaries in Belgium (Elia) and the north-east of Germany (50Hertz), we manage 18,600 km of high-voltage connections.
This places the Group among the top 5 in Europe. With a reliability level of 99.999%, we provide society with a robust electricity grid that is important for socio-economic prosperity. We also want to be a catalyst for a successful energy transition to a reliable, sustainable and affordable energy system.
Elia Group is looking for a motivated and forward-thinking Analyst to join its internal think tank, “System of the Future.” This Belgian-German team provides clear, accessible answers to strategic questions about the future decarbonized energy system, driven by societal needs and long-term European energy goal. The team is responsible for the following tasks, among other:
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative research to deliver actionable insights and recommendations on key topics of the energy transition such as market design, affordability, grid stability or system flexibility
- Monitor emerging trends, shape a long-term vision and roadmap for the European electricity system of the future - actively promoting and advocating for its implementation
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including universities and industry partners, to build common positions and foster collaboration and knowledge exchange
- Lead diverse projects ranging from a six-month prototype development of a software planning tool for offshore connections, and a year-and-a-half study on barriers to household flexibility (“Power to Flex”).
As an Analyst, you will play a key role in shaping the energy system of tomorrow - working closely with research partners, staying ahead of emerging developments. Your insights will directly inform strategic decisions within Elia Group and contribute to shaping policy, innovation, and investment directions in the European energy landscape:
- Analyze future developments in the European electricity system using both qualitative and quantitative methods, with a focus on markets, grids, and system operations beyond 2030.
- Apply and continuously improve advanced analytical tools and methods - such as market and grid modeling, GIS, or AI-based approaches - to deliver robust insights and support data-driven decision-making.
- Translate complex findings into clear, compelling messages tailored to diverse audiences - from technical teams to senior executives and external partners - supporting strategic alignment and informed decision-making.
- Manage cross-functional and cross-border projects collaborating with experts from the markets, grid, strategy, and innovation departments in Belgium and Germany.
- Build and maintain an expert network to stay at the forefront of energy system developments and foster knowledge exchange.
