Nemo Link Technician (m/v)
Function
Nemo Link is a joint venture that Elia (BE) & National Grid (UK) entered into for the construction of an HVDC connection between both countries. This cable connection was commissioned in 2019, since which it has been responsible for energy exchange between the mainland and the United Kingdom.
The HVDC Technician’s duties will include the following:
- You will be responsible for daily monitoring of the system and for performing preventive maintenance tasks with colleagues.
- You will carry out an initial analysis and the ensuing interventions in the event of alarms or anomalies;
- If necessary, you will disconnect parts of the system in consultation with the System Controller;
- You will carry out interventions and repairs on all the various systems, both during the annual cut and on redundant systems with the interconnector still in service;
- You will be responsible for providing safety and work documents to parties that are to carry out interventions on the system;
- You will be involved in work planning for annual maintenance, during which the entire system will be disconnected, so that work is carried out as efficiently as possible and to the highest standard possible.
- Your role will include a watch element. So, you will regularly be on call to respond to emergencies that happen outside working hours and at weekends;
- You will be actively involved in ensuring safe behaviour on site and also the intrinsic safety of systems, e.g. by actively taking part in operational dialogue (360°, Morning Star, knowledge transfer and team meetings, etc.) and monitoring safe behaviour among contractors.
What do we expect of you?
- You have a technical secondary education or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- You have already had some initial professional experience in the technical field.
- You are interested in and want to learn more about new HVDC technologies. Experience with HVDC, industrial automation and utilities (HVAC, diesel and fire-fighting, etc.) would be an advantage.
- You have basic IT skills (Outlook and Office).
- You are analytical and happy to work independently.
- You are preferably an accredited switching officer and also qualified to be the local safety manager at grid level. If not, you are willing to gain both qualifications in the short term.
- You are very aware of the importance of safety.
- You are enthusiastic and enterprising.
- You have a knowledge of English or are willing to learn English.
- You are willing to travel abroad for training and testing.
- You will work closely with fellow technicians and report to the Nemo Link expert.

- Your work environment will be Herdersbrug; your base will be in Brussels (Schaerbeek);
- You will travel regularly to Liège (ALEGrO & Nemo).
