Nemo Link Technician (m/v)
Function
We are looking for a driven electrotechnician to strengthen our Nemo Link team (based in Bruges). Nemo Link was established in collaboration between Elia (BE) & National Grid (UK) for the construction of the high voltage direct current (HVDC) connection between Belgium and the United Kingdom. HVDC is used to transport electricity over long distances to reduce power losses.
Since 2019, this cable connection has been in operation and facilitates the exchange of electricity between the mainland and the United Kingdom. Nemo Link is expanding, and we gladly welcome a new colleague into our close-knit, three-member team. Are you interested in developing your skills further in this multidisciplinary, electrotechnical role?
The position of HVDC technician will include at least the following tasks:
- You are responsible for inspecting the installation and performing preventive maintenance tasks with your colleagues.
- You handle troubleshooting: conducting the initial analysis when there are alarms or anomalies.
- You and your team members carry out interventions and repairs on various installations in order to make them operationally efficient and safe.
- In consultation with the System Controller, you disconnect parts of the installations as required.
- You are responsible for delivering safety and work documents to parties who will perform interventions on the installation.
- You assist with the work preparation for the annual maintenance during the shutdown of the entire installation, ensuring the work proceeds as efficiently and qualitatively as possible.
- You take part in on-call duties: every 6 weeks, you are on-call for emergencies outside working hours and during weekends.
- You play an active role in ensuring safe behavior on-site and the intrinsic safety of installations by actively participating in operational dialogues (Morning Star, 360°, knowledge transfer, team meetings, etc.) and overseeing safe behavior among subcontractors.
- If a problem is detected with our subsea HVDC cable, the Nemo Link team joins Elia's Offshore team to carry out necessary repairs.
What do we expect of you?
- Safety is an absolute priority for you!
- You obtained a technical secondary, graduate, or bachelor's degree in electromechanical/mechanical engineering, or have equivalent experience. Preferably, you have completed an internship or acquired professional experience in the technical field.
- You are interested and motivated to gain knowledge about new HVDC technologies. Experience with HVDC, industrial automation, and utilities (HVAC, diesel, fire-fighting, etc.) is an asset, but not a requirement.
- You are fluent in Dutch and have a very good command of English, or are willing to improve your English skills.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
- You have an analytical and practical approach.
- You work closely with your fellow technicians and report to the foreperson of Nemo Link.
- You understand the safety risks associated with working in an electrical environment, apply the necessary safety measures, and consciously deal with them daily.
