Your mission: connect the Princess Elisabeth Island
To contribute to Europe and Belgium’s ambitions for the Energy Transition, Elia has foreseen to extend its offshore high voltage grid, by constructing Modular Offshore Grid 2 (MOG 2). The grid shall connect the new Belgian windfarms situated within the “Princess Elisabeth Windfarm zone”.
The project entails:
- an artificial energy island (with offshore transmission infrastructure).
- Multiple AC substations at 66kV & 220 kV (The windfarms are to be connect at the 66kV level = scope windfarm owners).
- 6x 220kV AC export cable systems of ~50 km each.
Your role as Project Leader Cable – Offshore
As Project Leader Cable - Offshore :
- You are part of the HVAC team (Discipline: Substation Systems) and report to the HVAC substation package manager.
- You will be part of the team that manages and executes the design, procurement and construction of the AC offshore substations connecting the Princes Elisabeth Island to the on-shore 220kV grid of Belgium. Equipment in the substation are GIS 220kV and 66kV, transformers, shunts, HV & LV cables, protection cubicles, utilities, …
- You will take the lead on the HV Cables on the Island
You are responsible for the following tasks:
Design phase
- Align with internal and external parties, such as GIS, Transformer experts and Electrical Primary Systems contractors
- Ensure the quality of the studies by in accordance with the IEC/BNB norms, standards and methodologies of Elia
- Review engineering studies and coordinate reviews by experts, designers and partners
- Coordinate type tests and evaluate reports made by experts
- Perform cable calculations
- Prepare documentation (creation of technical specification and requirements) using concepts, procedures, codes & standards for HV cable tests
- Assist with diverse tasks (e.g.: document management, make visio/drawings, manage action lists, …)
Execution and construction phase
- Participate and report on the factory acceptance tests and site acceptance tests for the HV Cables on Island
- Intervene and provide a solution in case of design or implementation problems on site
Integration in island design
- Participate in workshops with the EPC substation contractor, interface meetings with the island contractor, …
- You are a Safety Leader, continuously looking for technical improvements and for safety enhancements by making a proactive contribution to the feedback process
- You seek out design opportunities to bring additional benefit to the project
- You cooperate and coordinate with multi-disciplinary team of experts and internal/external consultants
- You represent Elia towards different stakeholders
Your Profile
- You are a qualified civil or industrial engineer specialising in electrical or mechanical engineering
- You have at least 5 years of experience with high voltage cable projects
- Experience with GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear), transformers and shunt reactors as well as Secondary Systems is a plus
- Experience in offshore projects is a plus
- You have project-management experience and/or expertise in high-voltage matters
- You are fluent in English, Dutch and/or French is a plus
- You have a keen sense of responsibility and excellent organisational skills
- You are a smooth, assertive communicator and a resourceful, customer-oriented team player
- You are a quick learner
