Nemo Link in an incorporated joint-venture between Elia Transmission Belgium and National Grid Interconnectors.

 

At the heart of Europe’s energy transition, Nemo Link is the pioneering electricity interconnector between the UK and Belgium – a 140-kilometer high-voltage subsea cable delivering clean, secure, and affordable energy across borders. As the first operational interconnector between the two countries, Nemo Link plays a critical role in enhancing energy security, enabling renewable integration, and driving market efficiency in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Role Purpose

As the Regulatory & Policy Manager at Nemo Link, you’ll be at the forefront of strategic dialogue with regulators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders across the UK and EU.

 

You’ll help navigate the complex regulatory environment, influence policy development, and ensure Nemo Link remains a trusted, innovative leader in the European energy market.

Key Responsibilities

 

 The areas of work associated with this role will include:

 

1. Regulatory & Policy Strategy

  • Monitor and interpret evolving EU and UK regulatory and policy developments impacting interconnectors.
  • Evaluate the operational, financial, and contractual implications of regulatory and policy changes for Nemo Link.

2. Regulatory Engagement & Governance

  • Lead Nemo Link’s input into consultations, code modifications, and regulatory initiatives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional contributions to key regulatory filings and manage relevant regulatory submission processes
  • Represent Nemo Link in industry working groups, technical forums, and regulatory meetings.

3. Policy Development & Market Design

  • Support policy analysis and help shape the reintegration of the GB electricity market into the Internal Energy Market (IEM).
  • Track developments in market coupling, capacity calculation methodologies, and broader market design reforms.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior leadership on regulatory risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare high-quality briefing notes, impact assessments, and board-level reports.

4. Regulatory Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure Nemo Link remains fully compliant with its regulatory obligations.

5. Stakeholder Relations

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including:
    • Elia Transmission Belgium and NESO
    • Ofgem and CREG
    • Joint Allocation Office
    • Government bodies (DESNZ, FOD Economie, European Commission)
    • Industry partners and associations (Energy Traders, Energy UK, Eurelectric, etc.)
    • ENTSO-E
  • Act as a trusted regulatory advisor within Nemo Link, offering clear, actionable guidance to commercial, technical, and operational teams.

Your Profile


Essential

  • Strong understanding of EU electricity market regulation, including relevant network codes and market design principles.
  • Working knowledge of the UK regulatory framework and electricity market structure.
  • Proven ability to interpret legal and regulatory texts and translate them into actionable commercial and operational insights.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trust across diverse audiences.
  • Analytical mindset with a structured approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting regulatory submissions, consultation responses, or compliance documentation.
  • Comfortable operating across multiple jurisdictions and navigating complex stakeholder environments.


Desirable

  • Prior experience working with TSOs, interconnectors, power exchanges, or energy regulators.
  • Familiarity with financial and economic dimensions of regulation, such as revenue models, incentive frameworks, and congestion income methodologies.
  • Understanding of market coupling mechanisms and cross-border capacity allocation processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Law, Economics, Engineering, Public Policy, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in energy regulation, policy, or market design—ideally within a TSO, regulatory body, consultancy, interconnector, exchange, or utility.
  • Solid understanding of EU regulatory frameworks is essential; familiarity with UK frameworks is highly desirable.
  • Excellent command of English, complemented by a strong proficiency in either Dutch or French.
