Senior Expert & Team Lead Electricity Market Studies
Function
Elia is looking to bolster its Scenarios, Market and Adequacy Analysis department in order to meet the challenges posed by the changing energy system. This department quantifies and analyses scenarios for the European energy mix and also carries out numerous (public or in-house) studies on the energy future of Belgium and Europe, security of supply and interconnection projects.
These include studies on security of supply over multiple time-frames conducted by Elia (proposed volumes for the Belgian capacity remuneration mechanism, 10-year adequacy and flexibility studies, prospective studies on the energy future like the recent ‘Blueprint’) or by ENTSO-E.
The department also conducts economic analyses of the high-voltage grid upgrade which are used in bilateral projects with other system operators or in connection with the federal development plan for the Elia grid or the European TYNDP (Ten Year Network Development Plan).
In addition, the department updates energy mix scenarios covering most of Europe, closely monitors the development of new technologies and establishes multiple future system paths (up to 2050) that are subsequently used in the various studies.
Some of these studies and the team's achievements are listed on the Elia website: https://www.elia.be/en/publications/studies-and-reports
