Function
Within Elia Group’s division for Digitalization, IT & Innovation (Division D), we have recently implemented a product organization as new operating model to complement our classical project-oriented way of working. Division D offers a series of chapters specialized according to expertise areas in which the primary goal is to offer highly qualified resources towards the different projects and products. One of these chapters is the Development Chapter, which contains the Software Integration engineering Sub-Chapter, which encompasses software solution specialists who specialize in translating business requirements into technical solutions, ensuring alignment with both business and technical objectives.
We are looking for a Sub-Chapter Lead Software Solutions who will attract, develop, and retain exceptional talents to enhance our capabilities and integrating and customizing comprehensive software solutions. As a Sub-Chapter Lead, you will be the line manager of a team composed of internal and/or external resources. You will report directly to the Development Chapter Lead.
As Sub‑Chapter Lead, you are responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, development, and cohesion of your sub‑chapter.
Your key tasks include:
- Translate and execute the chapter’s vision and strategy within your sub‑chapter, ensuring clear alignment of objectives.
- Collaborate closely with the Chapter Lead and organizational stakeholders (product/project teams, external partners) to manage demand, capacity, and resource planning.
- Lead and support change initiatives impacting the functional scope of the sub‑chapter.
- Manage and coordinate a team of mainly external chapter members (about 25), ensuring effective team planning, follow‑up, regular team meetings, and smooth daily coordination.
- Recruit, develop, and coach subchapter members, overseeing skills development and performance reviews. Actively provide feedback and follow up on further development.
- Ensure transparent performance reporting through appropriate measurement and monitoring mechanisms.
- Promote standardized practices, tools, and methodologies by fostering continuous learning, knowledge sharing, and best‑practice adoption across the chapter.
- Safeguard team cohesion and collaboration, considering the diversity and distribution of chapter members—potentially requiring travel between Elia Group locations in Belgium and Germany.
- You combine your role as Sub‑Chapter Lead (50%) with an operational role within a Product or Project Team (50%), aligned with your expertise — for example as Tech Lead, IT Applications Manager, Developer, or Software Solution Expert...
Your Profile
- Several years of relevant experience in software integration, with a strong focus on leading and developing IT teams, demonstrating a proven track record in team building, coaching, and technical leadership.
- A people‑centered leadership style, marked by active listening, and the ability to motivate and guide diverse teams.
- A solid background in software solution design, software product integration, system analysis, or equivalent experience within a software development environment.
- Broad understanding and practical experience across software product domains that typically rely on Software Solution Specialists (e.g., integration platforms, middleware, enterprise applications, architecture‑driven environments).
- Your technical curiosity, combined with a pragmatic and solution-oriented mindset, enables you to drive the integration or development of sustainable and innovative software solutions within the organization.
- Experience working in an agile environment, with a strong grasp of how to apply and adapt agile principles to enhance team collaboration, delivery, and overall performance.
- Excellent communication skills, able to convey complex technical concepts clearly to experts while also translating them into accessible, conceptual language for non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong presentation skills, capable of structuring and explaining complex ideas in an engaging and understandable way.
- Knowledge or experience in the energy and/or utilities sector is a valuable plus but not a requirement.
- Fluency in English is essential; additional skills in Dutch, French, or German are a strong asset.
