What we expect from you 

 

As an Expert in External Communications, you will be part of the External Communication and Reputation department. Along with our team of spokespeople, other communication experts and translators, you will contribute to raising the visibility and reputation of Elia Group as one of the most innovative grid operators in Europe. 

 

Your role will focus specifically on our ActNow sustainability programme, which comprises five key dimensions. Each key area is linked to one or more of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • Health & Safety
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Governance, Ethics & Compliance

As a sustainability-focused Expert in External Communications, you will monitor developments in the key areas outlined above and will actively seek out related interesting content and perspectives that are based on real events and achievements. To that end, you will develop both an internal and external network. 

 

The content you prepare will be disseminated through various channels, each of which has its own specific stakeholders. The content you produce will be tailored to suit each of these groups accordingly. You will be particularly skilled at producing digital communication content and will have demonstrable expertise in creating impact through social media channels. 

 

You will also contribute to the development of a range of texts, including press releases, speeches, presentations and Q&A documents. You will support the organisation of official guest visits and internal and external events, including live-streamed events, videos, podcasts, etc. In addition, you will actively look for ways to raise the profile of our staff as experts in sustainability via external events. 

 

You will be in contact with almost all of Elia Group’s departments in Belgium and Germany. You will share and discuss your communications plan in detail with our spokespeople. In addition, you will coordinate your work with the Internal Communication, Project Communication and Digital Communication teams and Communication department at our German subsidiary, 50Hertz. You will also take part in regular coordination meetings with the Strategy, Innovation and Investor Relations departments. 
 

Your Profile


What skills and experience are we looking for? 

 

  • You (preferably) hold a university degree and 5 to 10 years of experience as a communications officer, spokesperson or journalist. You speak and write Dutch, French and English, with one of these being your mother tongue. 
  • You are extremely interested in the energy sector and keep up to date with current affairs (both political and otherwise). Knowledge about and experience of developing a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme would be a big advantage. https://www.eliagroup.eu/en/sustainability
  • You write well and you enjoy the process of writing. You can convert complex material into understandable texts that are easy to read. You are able to prioritise your work and differentiate between tasks which are pressing and those which can wait. You  ask questions of others so that you fully understand the context and subject of a piece of work. You are comfortable with speaking in front of an audience. 
  • Once your tasks and responsibilities have been defined for a project, you are able to work with a high degree of autonomy. If you are unsure about anything, you always contact the relevant team or your manager. 
  • You enjoy making a difference and taking on responsibility and ownership of your work. You are flexible in terms of your working hours and are interested in working in an international context. For example, you will occasionally travel to Berlin for joint projects with our German colleagues from 50Hertz. 
  • You will work with video companies as well as events and communications agencies, which you will have to brief, monitor and give direction to. You will ensure that budgets are kept to. 
  • You have a positive outlook on life, are a team player, and come up with solutions to every problem. Since your role will involve continuous and close working with internal and external partners, you are very customer-oriented and you invest a lot of time in coordinating and aligning your work with the desired result.

  • Elia shares: Elia will give you the opportunity to subscribe to shares with a discount of 16.66% on the average share price.
