About the role
As Tax officer you will report to our Group Tax Manager and you will be part of the Group Accounting and Tax department of the Elia Group. 
You will be a key contributor in the long-term growth of our capabilities and skills and will play your part in the energy transition by analyzing how energy taxation can have impact on consumption and investment choices for a greener future.
You will be part of multiple tax operations and your responsibilities will include the implementation of group and local tax compliance obligations, the realization of our tax strategy (local and group), the enhancement of digitalization in all our tax processes, as well as the assistance on business projects involving tax questions.

 

Your role and responsibilities:
Your main tasks include the management of our tax compliance and daily operational tax reporting as well as the continuous improvement of Elia’s tax data. You will also take an advisory role on matters within your perimeter of expertise.

 

Tax accounting compliance

  • You coordinate monthly closing activities as well as the monthly computation of income tax according to BE GAAP standards (basic knowledge of IFRS tax accounting is certainly a plus)
  • You ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of deferred tax positions and related reporting duties within the framework of monthly closing
  • You coordinate the annual tax reporting vis-à-vis external and internal stakeholders and ensure timely filing
  • You implement a solid VAT control framework and coordinate the implementation of VAT automation reporting
  • You manage the forecast preparation of tax P&L impacts (BE GAAP) based on budgets.
  • You oversee intra-group financing / service flows and ensure timely and adequate tax reporting 
  • You provide valuable insights for financial planning and ensure correctness and accuracy of the periodical financial report based on tax data

 

Tax automation and risk management:

  • You propose and create improvements to internal control procedures related to your areas of focus
  • You analyze, review and manage various improvement initiatives and tax automation projects and act as business partner for all stakeholders (e.g. business analysts, IT specialists)
  • You oversee the interactions with Accounting (IFRS, G/L, A/P and A/R) and create governing procedures to ensure tax compliance at all times;
  • You provide support in handling tax audits

Your Profile

 

  • Master’s degree in Tax law, Accountancy, or Business Economics 
  • At least 3-6 years of relevant experience in a tax law firm, Big4, boutique accountancy firm or in a similar position in the Business 
  • You are a reliable professional, acting with integrity.
  • Strong analytical skills with critical thinking, capacity to understand complex tax issue and to formulate clear and pragmatic advice to the business.
  • Good communication and presentational skills (oral and written)
  • Creative, innovative-thinking, willing to engage with SAP S4/HANA (previous experience is a plus) 
  • Good knowledge of Excel and Word
  • Eager to self-develop in an international environment and eager to learn about tax in the energy sector, regulated sector contingencies and think out-of-the box based on this very specific environment.
  • Fluent in French and/or Dutch and English
