Would you like to put your expertise to work on infrastructure that is essential to Belgium and contribute directly to the reliability of tomorrow’s electrical grid?

Join Elia's Settings & Software Interfaces team and participate in the development, configuration and continuous improvement of the protection, automation and control systems that secure Belgium’s high-voltage network.

Your Mission

Within Elia Expertise & Standards, you play a key role in the evolution of the protection, automation and control systems deployed across the high-voltage grid.

Thanks to your technical expertise, or your willingness to further develop it, you contribute to ensuring the quality, safety and performance of the solutions implemented on a rapidly evolving electrical network.

You will join a recognised team of experts and have the opportunity to work on strategic projects related to grid modernisation and the integration of renewable energy sources.

The team’s activities include protection settings, IED configuration, technical validation activities and the continuous improvement of standards. Depending on your experience, interests and professional development within the team, you will have the opportunity to develop your expertise in one or several of these domains.

Specifically, you will:

  • Contribute to protection studies, protection settings definition, IED configuration or technical validation activities, depending on your experience and interests.
  • Participate in the development, parameterisation and validation of protection, automation and control systems for the high-voltage network.
  • Ensure that implemented solutions comply with Elia’s protection concepts, standards and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Commissioning, Asset Management and Operations teams to ensure the reliability and performance of the grid.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of methods, tools and technologies used to address the challenges of the energy transition.

Your Profile


You are technically curious, enjoy analysing problems and are eager to develop your skills in protection and automation systems for high-voltage networks.

You identify with several of the following:

  • You hold a bachelor's degree or technical qualification in electrical engineering, electronics, electromechanics, industrial automation or an equivalent field.
  • You have experience in a technical environment such as industrial automation, PLC programming, commissioning, maintenance, control systems, electrical infrastructure or similar activities.
  • You have a strong interest in technical systems and new technologies and are motivated to further develop your expertise in protection and secondary systems.
  • You enjoy learning and are eager to continuously strengthen your technical skills.
  • You are able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • You are proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
  • You hold a valid driving licence (category B) and are willing to travel occasionally within Belgium.

 

Experience with electrical protection systems, high-voltage substations or digital protection systems is considered an asset. Knowledge of Dutch, French and/or English is a plus.

  • Interest subsidies: after you have been with Elia for 5 years, Elia Engineering will be able to offer you a subsidy to reduce the interest charges on your mortgage loan. This will only be possible if the mortgage loan was taken out when you were already an Elia employee. 
  • Elia shares: Elia will give you the opportunity to subscribe to shares with a discount of 16.66% on the average share price.
