Elia is the operator of the Belgian high-voltage transmission grid (380 kV to 30 kV) and is responsible for developing and maintaining the grid, providing users with access to it and controlling energy flows. Your role as a Telecom Technician

 

The Datacom team provides Elia with a reliable and fault-resistant communication platform. The department is responsible for, among other things, fixed and mobile telephony, satellite telephony, protection technology, remote control and monitoring of high voltage substations, data collection, physical security, and communication with other partner companies.

  • You will be responsible for maintenance of Datacom technologies (optical fibre, copper cables, modems, telephony, PDH E1, SDH, Ethernet, IP, DWDM, etc.)
  • You will contribute to the development and extension of the Datacom network to ensure an efficient and reliable network
  • You will travel daily within Brussels with your service vehicle (van) to high voltage substations, service centres, dispatching centres and data centres
  • Your day will start at 7:30 a.m. on site and finish at 3:35 p.m. On Fridays, you will finish at 2:50 p.m. You will be compensated for travel outside working hours

What we are looking for

 

  • You have a passion for telecoms and are prepared to be trained in our technologies 
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in electronics or telecommunications or can provide proof of relevant technical experience
  • You are able to organise and plan your work independently
  • You are able to react to changing priorities, unexpected events
  • You hold a B licence and are prepared to travel within Brussels on a daily basis
  • You like working alone or in collaboration with subcontractors
  • You are a French or Dutch speaker and preferably have a good knowledge or are willing to learn the other language
  • You are able to read and understand technical documentation in English and/or are willing to take English classes
