Line & Cable Technician

Expertise:  Technicians
Reference ID:  526

All the energy you use at home passes through the Elia grid, whether it comes from a wind farm in the North Sea, nuclear power plants in Belgium, or elsewhere. This means that we need to take the greatest care of the technical assets that make up the grid.
The reason we have one of the most reliable grids in Europe is that it is well maintained, and when any problems do arise, our technicians are there to carry out repairs. It's thanks to them that we can transmit electricity 24/7.

The technician's job covers an extremely diverse range of activities. For its operations in the provinces of Liège, Namur and Luxembourg, Elia is looking for technicians to join the following department:

•    The 'Linear Assets & Structures' teams are the technicians who regularly patrol the grid, carry out periodic measurements and perform urgent, remedial work. Their tasks are also very varied and involve regular contact with the public. They work on underground cables and overhead lines, for which they may need to have a head for heights as technicians sometimes have to climb 50 metres to make observations or repairs.

Depending on their personal ambitions and interests, Elia gives its employees the chance to move between teams, perform other, more technical/administrative tasks, or work in Dispatching, the department that monitors and controls the grid. As a result, employees can carve out a very varied career and amass extensive technical expertise in the sector. Employees also have the opportunity to specialise in a specific activity and strive towards a technical expert position in their chosen area of expertise.
