Function
As a Junior Expert Local Grid Scenarios, you play a key role in preparing the Belgian electricity grid for the energy transition. You contribute to the development and implementation of realistic local scenarios for consumption, production, and storage, based on input from internal experts such as the Demand and Generation Forecast Analyst and the Regional Grid Developer.
These scenarios help identify technical challenges early on, such as voltage quality, congestion, and short-circuit levels. You assess whether tomorrow’s grid is aligned with these future developments and provide the Power System Planning experts with insights into grid reinforcement needs and opportunities for new connections.
You contribute to a reliable energy supply for the Belgian market, respecting legal obligations, customer expectations, and societal needs. Additionally, you actively participate in the development of methodologies, processes, and tools that prepare us for the European energy transition, such as the integration of renewable energy, a more active role for demand-side management, and cross-border cooperation.
What will you do?
- Develop future scenarios and assumptions for the energy system and identify their impact on the electricity grid.
- Accurately and realistically model future large consumers on the grid.
- Translate choices made by local grid users into macro energy scenarios.
- Implement local scenarios into the high-voltage grid model.
- Analyze grid performance and report your findings.
- Contribute to research and development projects and participate in internal, national, and international expert groups.
Your Profile
- You are a civil or industrial engineer in electricity or electromechanics, with a strong link to data management.
- You have initial junior experience as an Electrical Engineer or Data Engineer, or you are a motivated starter with a strong interest in energy systems.
- You understand the workings of the Belgian energy sector or are willing to quickly get up to speed.
- You speak and write fluent English, complemented by a good knowledge of Dutch or French.
- You have strong analytical skills, a broad perspective, and the ability to structure complex technical information for strategic decision-making.
- You are a true team player, eager to share knowledge and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- You have experience in data processing and are proficient in Python or R (required).
- Knowledge of grid calculation tools (load flow, probabilistic analyses, cost-benefit analyses…) is a plus.
