Function
The Datacom Field Operator reports to the Field Operations Supervisor and has the following objectives:
- To prepare the daily schedule for regional Datacom activities in collaboration with the supervisor;
- To perform corrective and preventive maintenance on all Datacom technologies (optical fibre, copper cables, modems, telephony, PDH E1, SDH, Ethernet, IP, DWDM, etc.);
- To install and test Datacom technologies in accordance with current safety and quality procedures;
- To be involved in the evolution and expansion of the Datacom network, in order to guarantee a reliable and high-performance data communication network for applications in substations, service centres, dispatchings and data centers.
Your duties will be as follows
Scheduling
- To receive and follow up on various inputs for the schedules of various departments (Engineering, Asset Management and Datacom);
- To work with the expert to convert these inputs into a daily schedule and a schedule for contractors.
Work preparation
- Prepare assignments, from a practical and technical point of view (gathering all necessary materials and information);
- Carefully analyse the impact on the operational Datacom network and communicate it to the relevant departments (Dispatching and Asset Management);
- Implement the necessary redundancy mechanisms to minimise risks and impact.
Work performance
- Coordinate and perform installation and maintenance work on all Datacom technologies;
- Check, inspect and deliver work performed by contractors;
- Test and commission Datacom systems;
- Implement and configure Datacom services via management systems in order to connect end systems.
Safety
- Be familiar with, apply and monitor the relevant safety rules, procedures and principles (for both individuals and the network).
Evolution & innovation
- Actively contribute to the evolution of the Datacom subnetwork;
- Be involved in the evaluation and implementation of new technologies;
- Help introduce new working methods;
- Formulate and implement improvement proposals;
- Continuously keep your technical knowledge up to date given the rapid developments within IT/Datacom.
Documentation & reporting
- Arrange the correct documentation (plans, systems, administration, etc.);
- Report on the tasks and activities completed.
Your Profile
- You have a Bachelor's degree in electronics, ICT or telecommunications or have relevant technical experience;
- You have the following competencies:
- An in-depth knowledge of Datacom technologies (optical fibre, copper cables, modems, telephony, PDH E1, SDH, Ethernet and IP);
- Strong organisational and planning skills;
- Good communication skills;
- An eagerness to learn and a strong development-oriented mindset;
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility;
- A strong sense of responsibility and good risk insight;
- Customer focus and the ability to cope with stress.
- Languages:
- You are a native Dutch speaker and will preferably have a good knowledge of French or be willing to learn French;
- You are able to read and understand technical documentation in English and are potentially willing to develop your skills further in this respect.
- Additional requirements:
- You are willing to do the certification programme for offshore work;
- You are willing to perform both onshore and offshore activities in line with project requirements.
- You have a category B driving licence and are willing to travel within the region on a daily basis.
