Structural Engineer Offshore
Function
Demand for offshore renewable energy is showing strong growth in countries throughout the world, including Belgium. To meet this demand, the first Modular Offshore Grid project (MOG I) will be followed by the further expansion of the high-voltage grid offshore to include the Princess Elisabeth Island, Europe’s first offshore energy hub.
The energy island is an important, future-oriented electricity hub hosting cables from both the second offshore wind zone (Princess Elisabeth Zone) and future interconnectors with other European countries.
The island itself consists of a concrete structure (caissons) that encloses the sand backfill, protects electrical systems against the waves and receives all the interface structures (cable ducts, hang-off space and J-tubes, etc.) necessary to lead offshore cables, install utilities as well as circulate and work on the island.
