The Elia Group transports electricity at extra-high voltage level. Two large European power grid operators make up the group: Elia in Belgium and 50Hertz in northeastern Germany. Together we are an international team of 2500 colleagues. In the context of the energy transition, we are implementing major grid infrastructure projects with investments worth billions. This is only possible with strong and reliable suppliers and service providers. Finding and retaining these is one of the challenging tasks of Elia Group's purchasing department.

Develop commodity group strategies in line with the objectives of the Elia Group, implement them consistently and take responsibility for tenders / negotiations with volumes in the millions.

As a strategic buyer, you will gain an overview of the long-term requirements and the associated procurement market and its development, nationally and/or internationally, in close cooperation with the technical departments of the Elia Group. In doing so, you will identify risks at an early stage and design solutions with foresight.

In this way, you develop strategies for your commodity groups and cooperation with suppliers. Depending on which commodity groups you prefer, you will work with suppliers in Germany or all over the world. Typical commodity groups in the Elia Group are: Substation technology, transformers, switchgear, converter and compensation equipment, offshore platforms/cables, pylons and overhead lines, underground cable routes, communication equipment and related services.

Your goal: Both sides, contractor and client, should benefit from the cooperation in the long term; to this end, you will develop intelligent (contract) instruments that make risks calculable. Where necessary, as a contract manager, you will continue to support suppliers and the associated contracts during the service provision phase.

To implement your strategy, you will work closely with your colleagues in the technical departments and projects during tenders and/or contract award negotiations.

Your competence profile:

• Completed studies in a relevant field, for example as a business economist*, industrial engineer*, civil engineer*, electrical engineer*,
• Organizational talent and initiative, team orientation, communication skills, an independent and solution-oriented approach to work, as well as analytical strength and affinity for numbers, 
• Good knowledge of German and English (B2 to C1).

Not required, but welcome: 

• (Sound) knowledge and practical experience in (strategic) purchasing, 
• Previous knowledge of SAP,
• Knowledge of public procurement law (sector regulation), 
• French or Dutch language skills.
