50Hertz counts 1,600 people who ensure that the electricity flows from the producers to the local and regional distribution grids or large industrial customers.
Being one of four transmission system operators in Germany, 50Hertz is responsible for the transmission of electricity at the highest voltage level, on which grid stability and security of supply in Germany and Europe depends.
About 18 million people live in the 50Hertz grid area which covers all Eastern German federal states, Berlin and Hamburg. Nevertheless, our responsibility extends beyond these borders: as a transmission system operator, we are part of a European interconnected grid and collaborate with partners across Europe.
Even more: 50Hertz forms a European company with the Belgian network operator Elia: the Elia Group. We work together intensively on the crucial issues. Individual areas such as IT or purchasing are group functions, i.e. here Elia and 50Hertz colleagues work in a joint team on workstations spread over Berlin and Brussels. The fact that these cities are the political centers of their countries and, with Brussels, of the European Union is an important advantage in view of the political and social dimension of the energy revolution.
50Hertz decided against a complex certification by an expensive service provider. We rather promote four non-commercial distinctions: Kununu, Fair Company and Trendence. For all of them the feedback of 50Hertz employees, trainees, apprentices and interns is decisive as well as reliable data evaluation.
It is understood that transparency and reliability are absolutely critical for the performance of a task that has a direct impact on society and the environment in so many ways, and are therefore taken very seriously by 50Hertz. You can get a good overview of how 50Hertz takes its social responsibility seriously on our CSR portal.
Regardless of sex, gender identity, country of origin, age, ethnicity, religion or belief, sexual orientation, ability or social background, and only based on performance, leadership, behavior, skills & competencies, everyone is supported to succeed and can contribute to the sustainable success of Elia Group.
50Hertz is open to training, study and career choices that go beyond gender stereotypes and is committed to training paths and career fields that are independent of gender.
Klischee-frei (Cliché-free) is an alliance of education, politics, business, practice and research initiated by the German government to promote gender-independent career choices and training. By signing the agreement, 50Hertz commits itself to supporting the initiative. This is associated with a reflective approach to constricting gender stereotypes and an active exchange between the players.
Support of the German Association of Women Engineers
Within the framework of sponsoring, 50Hertz stands by the German Association of Women Engineers (Deutscher Ingenieurinnenbund e.V.) and is thus also committed to improving the representation and networking of women in technical professions in order to contribute in the long term to increasing the proportion of women in these professions and fields of activity.
At 50Hertz, we also guarantee people with health impairments the right to diversity and equal opportunities. In our inclusion agreement adopted in 2013, measures were set out to promote people with health impairments in working life. An internal inclusion team supervised the implementation of this agreement. In 2017, a cooperation agreement was concluded with the Annedore-Leber-Berufsbildungswerk (vocational training works) in the context of which a trainee with a disability completed her practical placement at 50Hertz.
