Data Integration Engineer

Function

The mission of Elia Grid Development (GD) is to develop the grid infrastructure of the future within the context of the energy system’s transition to net zero. This energy revolution involves new technologies for both load and generation and the emergence of numerous small new players. While European climate goals offer a roadmap towards net zero, local information is vital for Elia, even when smaller players are not directly connected to the Elia grid. The Scenarios Processes & Data (SPD) team is responsible for managing this local data.

 

We are seeking a Data Integration Engineer to serve as the technical lead in implementing and integrating models and data pipelines developed within our team. The integration engineer is tasked with building and maintaining a product that incorporates modules developed by analysts into a pull system allowing end-user parameterization and local deviations. Given that SPD's models and tools are developed by citizen developers without professional IT intervention, the integration engineer’s role is critical in ensuring best practices throughout the codebase.

 

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Lead the development of a modular and transparent energy scenario data store. Act as both product owner and lead developer, coordinating with consultants and Elia IT to integrate tools for building load and production vectors into a unified pull-based system for automated ‘local micro vectors’. Ensure consistent outcomes by coordinating requirements and parameters with internal stakeholders.
  • Project Management: Develop and manage a comprehensive project roadmap, overseeing the lifecycle and interdependencies of all modules. Implement agile work tools to efficiently manage backlog items and tickets, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with project objectives.
  • Scenario Management and Business Needs: Understand the business needs for effective scenario management and ensure that the data solutions align with organizational goals and strategies.
  • Best Practices and Innovation: Propose and implement processes such as formal code reviews to evaluate modularity, documentation, and formatting style. Stay up-to-date with relevant data management technologies and tools, introducing new and effective solutions as needed.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Align with GD colleagues from other teams regarding infrastructure needs (IaaS, PaaS, storage, compute) and ensure consistency with Elia IT’s tech stack choices.

Your Profile

  • You hold a master's degree in informatics, computer science, or engineering with 2-5 years of relevant experience
  • You demonstrate proficiency in data management and manipulation with a hands-on approach.
  • You possess expert knowledge in Python, SQL, and Git, supported by portfolio projects.
  • Additional tools like R, PowerBI, and Databricks are nice to have
  • Understanding business needs for scenario management is essential to you.
  • You have a strong grasp of electrical engineering concepts like energy, power, and reactive power.
  • You are organized and result oriented.
  • You can effectively work under pressure.
  • You proactively tackle problems and enjoy technical challenges.
  • You are a quick learner.
  • You have entrepreneurial skills and are not deterred by challenges.
  • You are a proactive professional with a strong sense of responsibility.
  • You are fluent in English with at least a good knowledge of Dutch or French
