Function
The team
Asset & System Data (A&SD) is responsible within Elia for data management, maintenance and development of the reference systems needed to operate the Belgian high-voltage grid. As a Data Steward, you will work in the QCoER (Quality, Center of Excellence & Reporting) team of the A&SD team.
QCoER is responsible for the development, implementation, quality and harmonization of the processes/workflows and associated competencies required within A&SD, in collaboration with the other departments inside and outside Assets.
The QCoER team, consisting of multidisciplinary specialists, offers its expertise within the A&SD department by actively participating in projects aimed at digitizing the network and centralizing data. The core mission of QCoER is to provide high quality asset-data, related parameters & functions to operations and planning departments to support their needs and analysis for data-driven decision making, in view of overall business objectives.
To fulfill this mission, the QCoER team is responsible for defining and implementing the Data Quality Framework that supports Elia's overall Data Strategy and to ensure that the framework is respected and continuously improved within the company. The Center of Excellence is responsible for implementing a system of governance and active monitoring, and for establishing this approach as a permanent part of the corporate culture. Finally, the Reporting part of the QCoER team monitors the quality level of data produced/used within the company and takes the necessary proactive/reactive measures in close communication and collaboration with the relevant departments.
Your function
In a nutshell, this position consists of governing data on behalf of others and in the best interest of the organization. A good data quality is essential to fully benefit from internal data initiatives and to support/automate our processes; as a Data Steward, you will set and monitor KPIs related to the quality of data management activities within a data area assigned to you by the Data Governance Committee.
You will lead actions to improve these KPIs and play a central role in supporting the company in the transformation journey of using our asset & system data for better decision making.
As a data steward, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and fitness for purpose of the data assets, including the metadata for those data assets. You may share some responsibilities with a data custodian, such as the awareness, accessibility, release, appropriate use, security and management of data. You will also participate in the development and implementation of data assets and seek to improve the quality and fitness for purpose of other data assets Elia depends upon (design thinking).
Key responsibilities of the function:
- You collaborate with asset managers of the different asset fleets to spot opportunities for data-driven improvements and monitor existing data quality and traceability;
- For a specific business activity, you capture and document the Business Concepts, Business Terms, Business Rules, the Business Lineage under which they fall, their Business Impact, etc., so that the current data governance level for that activity can be measured (KPIs);
- You identify data quality issues by defining and monitoring KPIs and make sure that proposed solutions are followed up (curative actions or long-term solutions). You will play a big role to shape and maintain the data governance set up;
- You lead the root causes analyses when the current value of a KPI doesn’t match with its target and communicate the necessary corrective actions and improvements to the Data Governance Committee;
- You serve as a contact person for both Asset Managers and Product/Business Owners and you are responsible to establish, document and implement asset data management concepts;
- You build with the data owner the data roadmap and draft proposals on how to enable leveraging of such data;
- You connect with other impacted internal stakeholders from the different streams like IT, Digital & Data, and Grid Operation to ensure continuous alignment;
- You provide hands on support on existing Asset Performance Management digital tool as an admin user;
- You work alongside the Product Owners to co-shape and execute strategic digital initiatives within AM;
- You facilitate design thinking and ideation workshops.
Your Profile
- You have a university master's degree in computer science, engineering, business administration or energy related studies;
- You have minimum 2-3 years of professional experience (data management and use);
- You have an initial experience in data analysis, proficiency in SQL, Python or any analytical tools;
- You are familiar with the electricity sector or you are able to quickly gain an understanding of this sector and its underlying concepts;
- You are passionate about data and show a strong interest in quality and continuous improvement;
- You are familiar with data models and IT architecture
- You are familiar (processes & tools) with:
- data management,
- data quality management,
- metadata management;
- You show a get-it-done attitude, natural curiosity and you are an out of the box thinker; also, you are proactive and have a sense of responsibility;
- You have great powers of persuasion. You speak and write fluently in French or Dutch and English.
- You demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills to allow workshops to run smoothly, taking a leadership role when necessary;
- You have excellent problem-solving abilities with logical reasoning, creative thinking, synthesis, and the ability to untangle complex issues in a simple and structured way;
- You are able to critically review and question data needs and business logic. You are also able to think with the business about the necessary acceptance criteria;
- You show solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills;
- You are able to adapt to changing priorities and dynamic environments.
Not a must, but an advantage:
- Familiarity with product management concepts and practices;
- Experience in using Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) is a plus.
- Experience in using data governance tooling like data 360, collibra, apache atlas, solidatus,… or other.
