Energy Market Analyst
Function
A well-functioning energy market is a fundamental pillar of the energy transition. As the operator of the Belgian electricity transmission system, Elia holds a strategic position as a facilitator of the electricity markets, in particular by managing the markets for ancillary services (balancing capacity, balancing energy, etc.), which are essential to the stability of the electricity system. In this leading role, Elia is committed to guaranteeing the transparency, efficiency and integrity of these markets, thereby contributing to a reliable and affordable energy supply.
In this context, Elia is looking to strengthen its Market Monitoring team. The purpose of this team is to identify suspicious behaviour with regard to current European regulations (Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency, REMIT) prohibiting market manipulation and insider trading on the markets organised by Elia, by developing effective warning systems and conducting targeted analyses.
As a Market Analyst within the Market Monitoring team, you will be required to:
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of Elia's products and markets, and their expected developments in the broader context of the Belgian and European energy markets.
- Analyse unusual situations on Elia's markets in order to determine whether they constitute suspicious behaviour with regard to the European regulations in force (Regulation on Wholesale Energy Market Integrity and Transparency, REMIT) prohibiting market manipulation and insider trading.
- Optimise surveillance mechanisms in compliance with Elia's regulatory obligations, in particular by:
- Evaluating the performance of existing alerts and adjusting them if necessary;
- Developing new alerts or updating existing ones to adapt to market developments;
- Continuously improving detection and investigation processes, working closely with Elia's market experts.
- Overseeing the introduction of an IT tool, in conjunction with the IT development teams, to ensure optimal technical support for monitoring activities.
- Producing clear reports and documenting investigations.
- Contributing to the implementation of preventive measures to maintain market integrity.
