Function

 

As Quality & Technical Integration Expert, you will create and maintain the asynchronous technical framework to ensure that our infrastructure projects are deployed as efficiently as possible and to the highest possible quality standard. The 'asynchronous technical framework' is the set of technical documents and plans, also called standards, that are made available to the projects as a starting point and that must be applied by the projects as much as possible.

When defining these standards, you will seek the best technical solutions that meet the technical and economic requirements of Elia, its customers and the market and are tailored to the development and maintenance of the grid. You will take account of all relevant Elia strategies relating to finance, the environment, safety and security, designs and other issues, and of the available resources. You will work closely with the technical expertise and maintenance departments and pay attention to safety and security in all your deliberations. 

This role involves the following specific tasks and responsibilities related to your area of expertise (underground cables):
 

  • Dealing with complex technical issues and operational (experience) feedback within your field and integrating solutions into new or existing standards.
  • Devising engineering guidelines, which set out the instructions to be followed during the design and engineering phase and any missing intermediate steps making it possible to apply greenfield standards to brownfield situations (existing facilities).
  • Drafting technical specifications for contractors, comprising both general specifications and templates for particular specifications. More specifically, you will be in charge of feedback regarding these specifications and will serve as the main point of contact for the various project stakeholders (contractors, project leaders, site supervisors, maintenance representatives, etc.), whose feedback you will use to continuously improve the specifications.
  • You will work with Purchasing on contractor qualification, which is the procedure that must be followed in order to be able to carry out work for Elia as a contractor. This procedure involves, among other things, evaluating the technical capabilities of the candidate contractor. In addition to being involved in the technical qualification of companies, you will also be responsible for the technical certification of qualified contractors' project managers. These individuals take a test to assess their knowledge of the technical specifications.
  • Drawing up processes, templates and methods relating to technical activities (e.g. creating template project files, preparing and monitoring quality control processes for design and execution);
  • Sharing acquired expertise with colleagues and employees in projects via on-demand support and by providing technical training.
  • You will communicate regularly about developments in technical standards in your field.
     

Consulting with teams of technical experts in order to:
 

  • ensure professional handling of the technical standards and associated tools needed for projects to run smoothly;
  • see to it that the organisation has the most advanced engineering tools to hand to implement its infrastructure projects. 

Your Profile

 

  • You have a master's degree in industrial or civil engineering (electricity or electromechanics) or equivalent and are interested in underground high-voltage cables and power networks in general.
  • You have an analytical mind and excellent judgement.
  • You are assertive and can objectively summarise and align any differing views of individual experts.
  • You have a highly developed sense of initiative and can work independently.
  • You work well as part of a team, have good interpersonal skills, are persuasive and are able to get messages across clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • You are fluent in Dutch or French and have a good knowledge of the other language and ideally also of English. You are able to communicate and give presentations in both Dutch and French.

  • Interest subsidies: after you have been with Elia for 5 years, Elia Engineering will be able to offer you a subsidy to reduce the interest charges on your mortgage loan. This will only be possible if the mortgage loan was taken out when you were already an Elia employee.  
  • Elia shares: Elia will give you the opportunity to subscribe to shares with a discount of 16.66% on the average share price.
