Expert Power System Planning
Function
As Expert Power System Planning, you are in charge of conducting grid development studies, under the Power Factory platform, that are required to anticipate technical challenges in the grid (voltages quality issues, congestions, short-circuit levels, …) as well as evolution needs (connection of customers, end of life of assets, …). You are in charge of proposing suitable operating practices or robust grid reinforcement, taking into account the probability of occurrence of these challenges, their operational impacts and the estimated cost of the proposed solutions. The ultimate objective of this mission is to offer a reliable energy supply to the Belgian market taking into account our legal provisions, the expectations of our customers and of the community as well as the overall guidelines of multiannual budgets.
In addition, you are involved in the elaboration of enhanced methods, criteria and tools to anticipate future challenges of the European energy revolution (e.g. further integration of renewable energy sources, active participation of demand to the electrical system and further european integration).
Your tasks will predominantly comprise the following:
- Analyse the performances and the robustness of the HV power system.
- Contribute to the definition of future scenarios of the energy landscape, hypothesis and recognise challenging situations for the power system.
- Propose robust and efficient grid topologies and related operating practices for mid-term (3-4 years) and long-term (5-20 years) horizons
- Estimate cost of grid reinforcement and of associated operating practices
- Optimise and prioritise grid reinforcement scenarios
- Propose solutions for the connection of new users to the grid and for the evolution of grid users’ needs
- Report and present of results of investment options towards internal or external decision bodies
- Participate to the evolution of the current methodologies through internal, national and/or international R&D projects and experts groups.
Your Profile
- You are civil or industrial engineer specialized in electricity or electro-mechanics. A PhD in power system is a plus.
- You have a first experience as e.g. electrical engineer but we also like to meet enthusiastic young graduates.
- You speak and write English fluently supplemented with Dutch or French and are willing to improve your level in the other national language.
- You are willing to further build on and share your technical expertise.
- You are very much a team player.
- You have a very analytical mind and can see the bigger picture, meaning that you can clearly convey complex topics both in writing and orally.
- You are proactive and can communicate decisions in an impactful way to internal and external stakeholders
- You are prepared to participate to meetings abroad.
- Experience in power systems and/or in the Belgian energy sector is desirable.
- Knowledge of power system computing tools (loadflow, optimal power flow, probabilistic load flow…), risk-based decision making and cost-benefit analysis is a plus.
