Expert Telecom - Secondary Systems
Function
As a Secondary Systems Expert, you will acquire expertise on how to manage and implement new technical facilities that are used to expand and upgrade the Belgian high-voltage grid.
In this role, your main duties will be:
- Drafting and managing technical specifications for tender procedures.
- In the case of new framework agreements, helping to monitor entire tendering procedures and being fully responsible for the relevant technical matters (e.g. market research, drafting of technical specifications, technical analysis of bids, technical negotiations with suppliers, etc.).
- Handling the technical management of existing framework agreements.
- As a technical expert, providing support and technical advice for project teams.
- Devising technical training and giving it to operational entities.
- Taking part in internal, national and international working groups as an expert.
- Developing a general knowledge of the entire secondary system of an Elia substation.
As a member of the Secondary Systems Expertise team, you will be responsible for telecommunications. Secondary Systems Expertise is in charge of the 'passive part' of Elia's telecoms equipment.
As a telecoms expert you will have the following responsibilities:
- You will be chiefly responsible for everything related to fibre-optic connections.
This includes HDPE conduits, fibre-optic cables, control rooms, patch panels, patch cords, pigtails and connectors; these involve connections between sites, between buildings within a site and between cabinets within a building. - You will potentially have other responsibilities, including for the material required for copper ethernet connections, and for 19-inch cabinets.
- Close cooperation with the Datacom Department, which is responsible for the operational management of Elia's telecommunications network.
- Over time, your duties may evolve in line with the needs of your team and your own interests.
Your Profile
- You are a qualified civil or industrial engineer with a strong affinity for electronics, telecoms, electricity and/or electromechanics.
- You can speak and write in at least two of these languages: Dutch, English, French.
- You look for pragmatic solutions and are naturally customer and results-oriented.
- You are a communicative, persuasive team player.
- You are good at analysing and summarising, which enables you to convey complex subject matter clearly, both orally and in writing.
- You are a proactive self-starter, capable of going about your duties independently.
- You are a proficient user of MS Office.
- You ideally have several years of work experience in telecommunications.
- As an expert, you are:
- willing to expand your knowledge of telecoms;
- willing to acquire new knowledge about new technologies/applications that will be rolled out at Elia;
- proactively seeking to expand your knowledge.
- You ideally have experience with all the equipment required for fibre-optic connections, such as fibre-optic cables, HDPE conduits and patch panels.
- The following technical knowledge would be a bonus:
- Experience in drafting technical specifications;
- Familiarity with the application of various international standards (IEC, etc.);
- Familiarity with the IEC standards relating to fibre optics (IEC 61300, IEC 61753, IEC 61754, IEC 61755, etc.).
