Function

 

Who are we looking for? 

 

As a native English-speaking copywriter, you will be part of the External Communication and Reputation department. Along with our team of spokespeople, communication experts, and translators, you will contribute to raising the visibility and reputation of Elia Group as one of the most innovative grid operators in Europe (it comprises both Elia Transmission in Belgium and 50Hertz in Germany). You will also support the non-regulated business activities of the Group which take place outside of our home countries, like the United States. 

 

You will translate the Group’s strategy into strong and comprehensive messages and storylines to create awareness and acceptance of our activities, improve our corporate reputation, establish opportunities for collaboration with external stakeholders, and attract new and talented individuals to work for the Group.

 

You will lead on various communication initiatives via transversal collaboration with other Group departments. You will be our internal journalist who interviews colleagues about different topics. You will work with our experts to summarise complex studies into comprehensive executive summaries and contribute to all kinds of Group publications, including the integrated annual report, newsletters, press releases, brochures, social media content, scripts for videos and live-streamed events, etc. 

 

You will actively look for opportunities to raise the profile of our experts via international conferences and events and will be responsible for the coordination of their participation in these.


What will we expect from you? 

 

  • You will be the sparring partner of our native English-speaking External Communications Expert. 
  • Based on interviews with staff from across the Group, you will write, edit and review a range of publications, including viewpoints, executive summaries, speeches, articles for the integrated annual report, press releases, speaker notes, project brochures, Q&A documents, scripts, video subtitles, etc. You will ensure that corporate messaging is consistent across our different communication channels. 
  • You will set up an annual calendar of relevant events from across the European energy sector and identify how we can optimally showcase our experts and Elia Group through keynote speeches, project presentations, debates, panel discussions, etc.
  • You will form part of the crisis communications team.  
     

Your Profile

 

What skills and experience are we looking for? 

 

  • You are a native speaker of English and have proven copywriting skills. You have a rich vocabulary and write flawlessly. You (preferably) hold a university degree and 5 to 10 years of experience as a copywriter, communications officer, spokesperson, or journalist. Knowledge of the energy sector is a plus. 
  • You are content-driven and can quickly familiarise yourself with complex topics and translate them into clear and comprehensive messages. You can prioritise your work and differentiate between tasks which are pressing and those which can wait. You understand what you are writing about and ask for help when you are unsure or require clarification. You are open to feedback, flexible, and welcome suggestions about and changes to your work from direct colleagues and staff from across the organisation. You’re comfortable with working in a dynamic environment in which content is regularly fine-tuned due to rapid evolutions in the energy sector.
  • You take the initiative. You are a networker who stays in close contact with different business units and actively solicits information and interesting stories from your colleagues. You are able to manage individuals who hold different levels of seniority with the organisation. . You keep up to speed with current events and global developments in the European energy sector.
  • You contribute in an open and creative manner to different communication projects and initiatives. Once your tasks and responsibilities have been defined for a project, you are able to work with a high degree of autonomy. If you are unsure about anything, you contact the relevant team and your manager. You enjoy making a difference and taking on responsibility and ownership of your work. You have a high degree of individual responsibility and are flexible in terms of your working hours and like to work in an international context. For example, you will occasionally travel to Berlin for joint projects with our German colleagues from 50Hertz.
  • You have a positive outlook on life, are a team player, and come up with solutions to every problem. Since your role will involve continuous and close working with internal and external partners, you are very customer-oriented, and you invest a lot of time in coordinating and aligning your work with the desired result.
