Elia Group's Works Procurement team is looking for a driven Project Contract and Claim Manager to join our dynamic team.
Our Works team plays a crucial role in the sourcing and strategic procurement of works necessary for the construction of Elia Group’s grid infrastructure. This includes a wide array of projects, such as electrical and civil works in high-voltage substations, high-voltage lines, underground cables, and turnkey solutions. Our commitment extends beyond procurement to follow-up on ongoing projects, ensuring they progress smoothly from a commercial and contractual standpoint.
We are therefore thrilled to expand our team with a Project Contract and Claim Manager Works to oversee two major substation projects under EPC-FIM (Engineering-Procurement-Construction with Free Issued Material) contracts. These critical projects are key to supporting Belgium's growing electricity demands as part of the ambitious Ventilus and Baekeland programs.
As Project Contract and Claim Manager, you will manage 2 high-volume contracts and have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
- Support and consult the project team in all contractual and commercial aspects to ensure that the construction project is successful at all levels of the project lifecycle, including participation in different project meetings.
- Ensure the actual service provided by the contractor is in accordance with the agreed service levels, standards and commercial conditions.
- Handling and proactively manage contract scope/planning changes, variations orders and possible issues together with the technical project team and relevant stakeholders.
- Drafting and manage commercial documentation and correspondence, including record-keeping, reporting, performance monitoring, price adjustments… and formal communications.
- Manage contract risks, claims, disputes and resolution in an appropriate way and with the relevant internal stakeholders (project team, legal, safety, procurement), including strategies to mitigate and avoid claims/disputes.
- Provide feedback (lessons learned) to internal Elia Group teams, like buyers and contract managers in order to prevent or anticipate issues for future or other ongoing projects.
- Moderating the interfaces between supplier and the Elia Group teams especially in escalated situation. Together with the project team, coordinate with the Contract and Supplier Managers responsible for the Materials to facilitate problem solving regarding delivery, quality… issues on the project.
- Supplier management on the project to ensure a constructive environment, hence contributing to the contract delivery, exchanging on relevant subjects with the Works Substations Supplier Manager.
- Manage the contract closure at the end of the project.
In addition, the following items will also be part of your tasks:
- Follow up and review the qualification process of new players for future EPC projects
- Alignment with your peers (Buyers & Contract Managers, project managers, at Elia and/or 50Hertz) about approaches and to share insights about market and category knowledge to help better negotiating contractual terms or defining future strategies
- Working on challenging transversal objectives within the works team, procurement department or Elia group workgroups.
Your Profile
- You have a master's degree with a technical, commercial or legal background or equivalent through experience.
- You have minimum 5-year experience in project contract management of large infrastructure projects, preferably Turnkeys or EPC projects
- You have a strong technical affinity.
- You are structured, organized and proactive, you work autonomously but attach great importance to a team.
- You are analytical, problem solving, solution-driven, strong communicator, persuasive and dare to question existing issues.
- You have a strategic focus and wider view on the whole project targets and Elia Group interests - incorporated into your daily work – without losing sight of the project deadlines.
- You are fluent in Dutch and English and have a good knowledge of French.
Experience in following areas are considered an advantage:
- Have experience with Turnkey or EPC-types of contracts
- Have experience in negotiations or knowledge about contract dispute & resolution (de-escalation) mechanisms
- Have experience with MS office suite, Aconex, SAP and/or Ariba Sourcing

- Based in Belgium, mainly Monnoyer office (Léon Monnoyerkaai 3. 1000 Brussels) and on the project locations (regio Ghent & Bruges)
- No (recurrent) or few travels to Berlin expected
