Within the Corporate Finance department, Controlling ETB (Elia Transmission Belgium) plays a crucial role as a key partner in helping the company and its divisions achieve their strategic goals. "We continually drive ETB towards enhanced business and financial performance to accelerate the energy transition at an affordable cost. We stimulate, measure, monitor, and communicate the company's performance to management, the regulator, and external stakeholders by providing them with relevant and insightful information."

As a Project Cost Controller, you will support the Infrastructure business unit responsible for developing and constructing both offshore and onshore grids, including the renewal and construction of high voltage substations, overhead lines, and underground cables. You will work closely with key functions such as Procurement and Risk.
 
In this Role, your main responsibilities will include:

  • You continuously monitor the cost evolution and budgets of projects, aggregating these costs across multiple projects within the broader program.
  • You work closely with the project team to develop initial budget estimates and forecasts, keeping these estimates regularly updated. In this process, you critically evaluate assumptions, identify cost reduction opportunities, and highlight deviations from the forecasted budget.
  • You ensure adherence to best practices for cost controlling as defined by the Finance department.
  • At periodic milestones, aligned with Elia’s reporting cycles, you challenge the project team on deviations from the original business plan and summarize explanations for these deviations.
  • You assess updates to project timelines and risks, co-evaluating their impact on budgets and forecasts, and suggesting mitigation measures and alternative scenarios.
  • You liaise with and support the project team to guarantee up-to-date project reporting, ensuring transparency and consistency on key metrics for all stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the treasury team, you monitor and aggregate cash flows across the portfolio to communicate project needs to the treasury department.
  • You actively promote a culture of budget ownership through day-to-day interactions.
  • You supervise and train other cost controllers and support the development of cost controlling best practices within Elia.

Your Profile

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Management, Civil, or Industrial Engineering.
  • You have at least 5 years of professional experience in project controlling , preferably in a capital-intensive industry.
  • You have a strong understanding of technical concepts related to project management in large infrastructure industries and you have the ability to proactively identify cost deviations and propose alternatives.
  • You have a proven ability to challenge assumptions in a project environment while maintaining a culture of budget discipline.
  • You have assertively, diplomatically and analytical approach and you adapt well to an evolving company culture.
  • You are proficient in MS Office and project management tools; familiarity with SAP is a plus.
  • Being trilingual (French, Dutch and English) is a plus.
