Project Manager Extra High Voltage
Function
As Project Manager Extra High Voltage, you will develop the architecture of the extra high voltage grid (>= 220 kV) in terms of both its onshore and its offshore infrastructure. You will help to shape the energy transition by designing a long-term grid architecture that is ready for the enormous challenges to be faced in the decades to come, such as the large-scale integration of (offshore) renewable energy and the electrification of society, but also the safeguarding of security of supply.
More specifically, you will search, together with internal and external partners, for creative and solid solutions such as the construction of an offshore energy hub, reinforcement of the 380kV grid or new interconnections with the surrounding North Sea countries, that provide an answer to the above-mentioned challenges from a technical, economic and strategic perspective. In your work, you will consider the ambitions of the European and Belgian governments and Elia’s strategies in the areas of financing, asset management, safety, the environment, etc. … This means you will be responsible for defining, preparing the approval for and following up the portfolio with infrastructure projects.
This role involves the following duties and responsibilities:
- You will have pro-active contact with various internal and external stakeholders (experts in the areas of security of supply, market and grid experts, Customer Relations, customers, TSOs of neighbouring countries, interest groups, regulators, government departments…). This will allow you to properly estimate their needs when it comes to the development of the 380 kV and offshore grids in the short, medium-long and long term.
- Taking into account the resources and strategies, you will translate the needs into an inspiring architecture that you will account for from a technical and economic perspective (cost-benefit analysis) and translate into a comprehensive plan of approach, which you will document and defend internally.
- Following approval, you will ensure that the logical parts of this comprehensive plan are launched in due course, based on a functional detailed description (including the technical scope, timing and budgets) that complies with the pre-determined needs and constraints.
- You will prepare clear arguments for these projects and defend them in relation to internal and external stakeholders, such as regulators, governments, neighbouring system operators, … You will proactively assess possible risks and bottlenecks and will try to anticipate them. Your arguments will make an essential contribution to the preparation of the Federal Development Plan that Elia will submit to the minister for approval.
- You will check the consistency of your portfolio and adapt it, where necessary, based on the feedback on project implementation (technical scope, timing and budgets) and any changes in external parameters (connection confirmations, actual changes in the energy mix, etc.).
- You will play an active role, both nationally and internationally, in drawing up long-term network development plans (Federal Development Plan, Ten Year Network Development Plan) or as an expert for the revision of certain European regulations.
- You will develop your skills and the company's know-how by contributing to or coordinating research and development projects.
- You will build technical and economic expertise regarding the investment projects and will act as advisor in various national and international working groups.
