Real Time EMS & SCADA Engineer
Function
The IT Energy Market and Real-Time Applications & Projects Department is responsible for the rollout and long-term maintenance of IT tools for Elia’s operational processes. These include real-time computerised management of the supervision and control system for the power grid (EMS/SCADA), tools guaranteeing security of supply, tools facilitating transactions on the various energy markets and exchanges of data with market players.
The role is also part of Elia Group's digitalisation strategy. The Real Time EMS & SCADA Engineer will be involved in various upgrade and information exchange projects, in partnership with the German entity 50Hertz and/or other entities within Elia Belgium.
We are looking for someone to join our team as soon as possible as Real Time EMS & SCADA Engineer responsible for the complete rollout of IT projects and their operational support within this department.
Your main tasks will include:
- being a functional and technical expert for our SCADA and EMS solutions (including supporting components)
- working with the business to set priorities within your projects and operational activities
- cooperating on and synchronising with IT projects upstream or downstream of your projects with a view to dealing with scheduling constraints and realising synergies between projects
- testing requirements provided by the business prior to their approval
- validating and verifying specifications drawn up by the business and – in the event of software developed within Elia – translating these into a functional, technical design based on Microsoft technologies (.NET);
- interacting with a team of internal and/or external developers together with the .NET technical manager and closely monitoring projects entailing software that is purchased or developed externally
- validating and testing the quality management strategy and monitoring them during rollout
- overseeing releases
- supporting end users (second line)
- organising and prioritising the maintenance of the developed solutions
Your Profile
- You hold a master’s degree specialising in IT and/or electricity.
- You have a min. of 3 years of relevant experience
- You have experience with real-time contexts in the energy sector (SCADA, EMS, real-time constraints in terms of availability…).
- You have experience with real-time protocols and standards such as ICCP, IEC104, CGMES…
- You can communicate easily with developers & technical teams (e.g. IT infrastructure) on technical matters as well as with operators about technical and design matters
- You preferably have knowledge of and experience in the electricity and/or energy sector
- You have an analytical mindset and good organisational skills, and you have an eye for detail
- You are customer-driven, you can work independently yet value teamwork.
- You are fluent in English. You have a good knowledge of Dutch and/or French.
- You are willing to travel occasionally for projects outside of Belgium
