Safety is key at Elia. We set strict safety standards for everyone involved in our operations because we want people to go home safe and sound at the end of the day. Safety is a shared responsibility and we have our sights set on a ‘zero accidents’ target. As part of our challenging CAPEX programme, the Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will develop a strategy consisting of a number of preventive health and safety measures. We are therefore looking for a motivated colleague to strengthen our Health & Safety team.
Job description
The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager develops, implements and manages safety procedures for Elia's infrastructure projects and contractors. This requires close collaboration with various departments, to guarantee safety during the design, implementation and maintenance phases. The manager also supervises contractors to ensure they meet Elia’s safety requirements and contribute to a strong safety culture.
Key tasks
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will develop a strategic plan to ensure safety is guaranteed at all times, from design to implementation by contractors, and will work with the H&S Department when implementing the plan within the organisation.
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will ensure that a “contractors community” is created and monitored in the various commodities (line work, pruning work and electrical work, etc.) so that stakeholders learn from each other on the basis of a lessons learned principle.
- The position involves managing safety coordination from design through to commissioning, geared towards improving efficiency and safety for various projects and contractors, including maintenance and commissioning.
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will develop a safety strategy and safety action and project plans for our contractors. This will contribute to the implementation of an improved safety culture (measured on the basis of the Safety Culture Ladder).
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will ensure the implementation of policy on the selection and allocation of contractors, their competencies and training programmes, safety requirements and any sanctions.
- The manager will develop a strategy for safety audits, which will make it possible to verify compliance with safety instructions and contractors’ skills. The manager will also ensure that the strategy is implemented and monitored so that safety standards are continually improved.
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will be responsible for developing a policy to safeguard the safety by design principle.
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will actively represent the H&S Department and lead the development and monitoring of safety concepts and projects via stakeholder management.
- The Safety Concepts & Contractor Manager will be responsible for specific transversal and Group-related programmes and projects about contractor safety management.

Your Profile
Qualifications
- A Master's degree in a relevant field
- A minimum of 10 years of proven experience in a similar role
- A knowledge of safety legislation and standards
- Good communication skills and leadership abilities
- A good (verbal and written) knowledge of Dutch AND French and a knowledge of English
- It would be an advantage if you were a qualified prevention adviser
