Function
The challenges within the National Control Centre are strongly driven by a continuously changing energy landscape such as the massive integration of renewable energy, the integration of new technologies on our grid, the shift to decentralised generation units and the growth of new players on the energy market.
The realisation of our ambitious investment plans offshore & onshore will put additional pressure on the high-voltage grid, which will increasingly require us to operate the grid against its limits.
Today, the NCC is organised into following departments:
- Energy Scheduling & Balancing;
- Operational Planning including the team Grid & Market Operations;
- Real-Time Grid Operations;
- Emergency, Projects and Processes;
- Power System Operations & Security.
For the Grid & Market operations team, we are looking for a Team Lead .
As Team Lead of the "Grid & Market Operations" team, in addition to coaching and managing the team, you will manage the change within the team: supporting the evolution of processes, procedures and tools. You will act in case of operational failure while maintaining a continuous improvement process in place.
You maintain and monitor different internal and international processes, procedures and methodologies to ensure that the team's critical operational services ensure the N-1 grid security of the Belgian network while optimizing the functioning of market mechanisms. You can lead the operational tasks related to network security calculations and offer expertise in analysis and problem solving.
Besides your role as team lead, you will be the owner of the data domain Grid Model Forecast. You are responsible for the quality of the network model forecast data used by the entire organization - internal customers (National as well as Regional Control Center) as well as external customers (Coreso, CORE, etc.). As data domain owner, you are responsible for implementing FAIR principles (data must be easily accessible, understood, exchangeable and reusable), steering the data quality strategy, developing and maintaining the roadmap for the evolution of the data domain while being a key stakeholder in making the link between operations and the various projects and products that impact the data domain.
Your key responsibilities as Team Lead
- You coach and mentor your team to ensure they are skilled, motivated and capable of achieving overall objectives. This includes guiding their training, assigning individual objectives linked to an individual development plan.
- You foster a culture of operational excellence through up-to-date procedures, a feedback loop on daily operations to drive continuous improvement, and a learning culture to stay up to date with evolutions of processes, tools, etc.
- You coordinate with various stakeholders interfacing with the team during our daily operational processes around grid security and market facilitation.
- You ensure effective communication and reporting on operational performance
- Collaborate closely with the head of operational planning on strategy of the team and the data domain Grid Model Forecast.
- You may represent Elia in international working groups to implement relevant directives.
Your key responsibilities as Data Domain Owner Grid Model Forecast
- As owner of the data quality strategy, you define quality standards, monitoring frameworks and performance measurement strategies for the data domain.
- You lead and prioritize data quality initiatives to improve overall data integrity and reliability
- Customer-centric approach: manage relationships with stakeholders consuming data, ensuring proactive follow-up on feedback and continuous improvement.
- FAIR data principles: establish and promote Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability) within the data domain.
- Data governance: set up data contracts and oversee data access rights to ensure compliance and security.
Your Profile
- You are an engineer or equivalent through experience
- You already have experience in a similar position and have knowledge of the operation of a high-voltage electrical grid and market mechanisms
- Direct operational experience within system operations of a high-voltage electrical grid or similar experience is a plus
- You have good leadership, organisational and social skills
- You can see the bigger picture, which means you can communicate complex issues clearly both in writing and verbally
- You have a sharp analytical mind, strong problem-solving skills
- You can take initiative, work independently and are result-oriented
- You are bilingual French/Dutch with fluency in English
- You can communicate assertively and in a structured way to internal and external stakeholders
