Technical Designer
Function
Within the Elia Group, Elia Engineering is responsible for all infrastructure projects that meet requirements with respect to the development, expansion and renewal of the Belgian electricity transmission system between 30 and 380 kV.
As Secondary Systems Designer you belong to a team of designers managed by a Design Coordinator and you will be part of the project team reporting to a project leader. You will be responsible for studies on secondary systems, more specifically to do with electrical safety, monitoring and control systems and with automation and measuring equipment for high-voltage equipment used in the power grid.
Your main tasks will be as follows:
- You will take part in the design of electrical equipment and help the project manager think through the technical options at projects' design stage.
- Where the aforementioned studies are concerned, your duties will include producing both conceptual and detailed studies, more specifically:
- organising and managing the planning of studies in line with the respective priorities and deliverables;
- producing safety block diagrams and detailed schematic diagrams;
- helping to define and choose equipment;
- guaranteeing the quality of studies in compliance with Elia's standards and working methods, using standard equipment;
- On the practical front, you will help the project leader monitor secondary systems work executed in the field, fulfilling the following tasks in particular: for matters concerning your specific area of expertise you will remain in contact with the operator, suppliers and companies responsible for assembling electrical equipment;
- During the commissioning phase, you will present your study to the testteam, and stay in close contact to collect the return of information:
- you will come up with solutions to problems concerning designs during installation in the field;
- you will occasionally attend site meetings in case of technical issues.

Your Profile
- You have a bachelor's degree or hold a secondary education diploma (A2) in electricity, automation, electronics or can demonstrate equivalent experience.
- You speak fluent Dutch and French, or if you only speak one, then you are prepared to learn the other.
- You are familiar with AutoCAD and Windows Office.
- You are keen to learn a profession and ultimately want to become an expert in your specialist area.
- You are a good planner and organiser, have an eye for detail, have a strong sense of responsibility and are assertive.
- You find quality important and you are punctual and precise in your work.
